Rainy days and Thursdays

It was rainy and cold on Thursday...

My infusion time had been changed to 2:30 p.m. today so I could see the doctor.

That annoyed me as it would be a long wait at the house. But, then I realized that I had lots of other chores to do.

So, I left the house around 11:00 a.m. First I stopped at Time Out to pick up my fudge. Keldon's school was selling it for some fund raiser. It was Marshall's Fudge from Mackinaw (family owned since 1923). I got two kinds: Chocolate English Walnut and Chocolate Cherry Cordial.

From there, I drove up to Farmington and my eye doctor's. I had fallen asleep reading and apparently rolled on my glasses. Both lenses had popped out and the frames were bent. So, I was wearing an old pair. It took them quite a while, but they eventually fixed them (for free).

Sidebar: Love you guys!

I was going to go grocery shopping, but I couldn't find my list! I was also going to get my haircut, but then realized that my barber doesn't work on Thursday.

I did fill up the gas tank on the truck. Then I leisurely drove to Barnes and Nobles to kill more time. Next I drove to the doctor's, but I was still an hour too early. So, I sat out in the truck and read my book until I had to use the bathroom. So, I went inside, apologizing for being a half hour early and used the john.

They took me in early, anyway.

My doctor came in during what I thought was my last infusion. She said they had checked and in the six weeks of this antibiotic, I had missed six days. She said my leg wasn't leaking, but she felt I would really benefit by having the full six weeks. So, she asked if I would come in for one more week. I reluctantly agreed.

I drove home in hard rain. I didn't feel like making dinner, nor did I feel like eating out. So, I stopped at Kroger's and picked up a BBQ rotisserie chicken and a tub of potato salad.

Back home, I treated the cat and changed clothes. I started a  load of laundry and found my missing grocery list in the pocket of one of my dirty shirts.

I had the chicken and potato salad for dinner. The chicken could have used a spicier BBQ sauce and the potato salad was a bit boring. But, it all tasted good and I have leftovers. It still cost me less than a basic chicken dinner at, say Popeye's (which I love).

I watched the Nightly News.

I read until the NHL came on (Red Wings against the Sabers) and we won!

Based on Amanda's recommendation, I tried some of the Chocolate Cherry Cordial fudge for dessert (just a few thin slices - I am a Type 2 diabetic, after all). OMfreakingG!!! Fantastic!!!

I went back to reading until about 11:00 p.m. and then went to sleep.

Thursday, March 29, 2018

It was overcast and cold on Wednesday morning. I went to the doctor's but forgot my short grocery list. So, I just went back home after my infusion.

I spent most of the day reading in the living room

I made a can of Campbell's chicken noodle soup. I ate half for lunch with some crackers and the other half for dinner (with an apple for dessert.)

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday

Okay, so I skipped my infusion on Sunday and Monday. Usually its my favorite nurse, Kristen, calling me asking if I am okay.  This time it was the doctor.

I promised her I would be there on Tuesday and I was. Then I came back home and went to bed.

Saturday, in the park. I think it was the fourth of July

Sidebar: None of that is true.It was the 24th of March and cold as hell. But, I wished it was the fourth of July and I was in a park.

I didn't do squat. I skipped my infusion. I am sick to death of this shit. Either heal me or let me die, dammit.

Thursday and Friday

Thursday and Friday were non-events.

Except, I got a "Fraud Alert" call on my credit card. They asked me if I had ordered anything from blah, blah, blah. I said no. So, they told me to cut up the card, they would deduct the charges and send me a new one.

Sidebar: This is like the fourth or fifth time somebody hijacked mt credit card.

I am starting to get really pissed!!!

Wednesday and Puerto Ricans

Vicky and her mother Evy came to the house after my infusion. We went out to eat a late breakfast at Leo's Coney Island. I had a full order of biscuits and gravy with a cup of coffee. Victoria had two eggs over easy, hash browns and turkey sausage patties and her usual café con leche. Evy got pancakes with link sausage.

Vicky mentioned that, since she was this far anyway, she would like to go see Courtney. I said, "Sure, why not?" She decided to take them donuts as a treat, so we stopped at the Looney bakery for a dozen. Miracle of miracles, they still had a salt bagel left, so I bought that for later.

Sidebar: When Courtney told her boys that Papa John was coming over, they said, "Is he bringing donuts?" So, now I'm stuck with that, I guess...

We had a nice long visit. Christian was a dinosaur so he made his arms look little and he growled a lot. Vicky and Evy hogged Isaac (the baby) until I finally got to hold him at the very end.

Amanda called. She left work early to babysit Annie's newborn, Rease. I had told her I was with Puerto Rican's in the morning but to let me know what she wanted for dinner and I'd drop it off. So, Courtney, Vicky and Evy all yelled "Hello, Amanda!" into my phone.

So, we eventually left. I got a nice hug from Courtney and, when they dropped me off, a hug from Vicky and Evy as well. I was about hugged out, lol!

I went to the nearest Tubby's. There is one on Grand River off of Inkster and another one at Stark and Plymouth Road. I'm not really sure which is closer. But, I go to the one on Grand River (I "feel" like its closer). I got her a mushroom and steak sub, no tomato with extra sauce. Then i drove to Annie's to deliver it.

Rease was sleeping so we watched some TV while she ate half of her sub.

Sidebar: She didn't tell me what size (6-inch, 8-inch or 12-inch) so I went with 8-inch. I'm pretty sure there's a joke in there somewhere, but I wouldn't touch it with a 10-foot pole, lol!

The baby eventually woke up. Amanda changed him and gave him to me.

Sidebar: They have a seriously sophisticated baby monitor. You can see the little munchkin on the display in the living room.

I did my usual Papa John moves. I have had four kids and learned early on that baby's can read your facial expression. So, while he was looking intently at me, I would give him a big smile. He smiled back! We did that for a long time. Cute little kid!!!

I told Amanda to tell Annie if she ever needed a babysitter to let me know. I also told her I could burp a baby better than her.

I finally left and got yet another hug and a smooch.

Back home, I cooked up some potatoes and a ham slice for dinner. I mashed the potatoes with milk, butter, dried parsley and a raw egg (I always do). I made some jarred pork gravy and applied it liberally to the potatoes and ham steak.

I skipped TV and read a book in the living room until bedtime. I ate my salt bagel for a treat.

I got my usual infusion on Tuesday. It was sunny. but cold. And the wind was fierce. It cut right through my leather coat!

Back home, the damn cat had thrown up on the bed. So, (pissed off) I threw the blanket and the downstairs towel and wash cloth in the washer.

Sidebar: I really was pissed and didn't hit the spot on the blanket with Shout! As a result, when I took it out of the dryer, the stain was still there! Dammit!

Amanda had to work yet another double shift. She did her usual (Monday and Tuesday 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) but then had to go back to work a party for 20 people at 6:00 p.m. They specifically asked for her (she is a damn good waitress).

Sidebar: These were the guys who put on the car show at the barn (a local landmark on Middle Belt and a farmer's market in the summer).

So, during her break, she called and asked what I was doing. I said, "Nothing." which is what I am usually doing at 2:00 p.m. We agreed to meet at Mason's, a sports bar at Farmington and I-96, for a late lunch.

I had never been there before. Amanda likes to surprise me with new places (It's part of her "get the old guy out of the house" program that my brother Carl and daughter Melissa supports)

Sidebar: I am on to both of you.

Anyway, I was torn between the patty melt, the Detroit coney or the three sliders. I eventually went with the three sliders topped with grilled onions. Amanda ordered the same, but with cheese. We split an appetizers of cheese filled potato skins. By the time I ate a potato skin, I could barely finish one slider. So, I took my two remaining slider and one potato skin home with me. Amanda took hers into work for her dinner.

The cat had barfed on the blanket again. This time I treated the old stain and the new one with Shout and washed it again along with the bedding.

I heated up my two sliders after taking the pickles off (hot pickles are just weird) for my dinner.

I ate the remaining potato skin as a treat, watching NCIS. NCIS New Orleans was not on, so I ended up watching Bull (Not a favorite) and went to bed at 11:00  p.m.

Birthday Shoutout!

Happy birthday to my grandson, Carl V, who turns 23 years old today. Where did the time go?

Tuesday, March 20, 2018

I woke up with the alarm on Monday. I had some cold cereal for breakfast and then shaved, showered and got dressed for my infusion.

Driving to the doctor's, I noticed that it was nice and sunny, but cold.

Back home, I took the trash receptacle out to the road. The recycle one was still almost empty.

Amanda called around noon. She offered to buy me lunch after her work. Free lunch? I said sure.

Since it was Monday, we went to the Big Boy on Six Mile and Newburgh. Why? Because the soup of the day on Monday is Canadian cheese, which is excellent. Along with a cup of soup each, we split a club sandwich.

Scott was bringing Keldon from school to the dentist around here someplace. She had some time to kill and wanted to check out some new work shoes. I offered to come with her and she accepted. So, we drove our respective vehicles to the Sears store at Seven Mile and Middlebelt.

She couldn't find anything at Sears, so we tried Kohl's.

While we were checking out their shoes, my phone rang. It was my dentist, wondering where I was.

Sidebar: Damn, I completely forgot my 2:00 p.m. appointment to get that little hole in my cap filled.

I told Cindy I was about 10 miles away. She asked if I could come in at 4:15 p.m. I said sure.

Kohl's was a bust, too. So she left for her dentist and I drove to mine. I had time, so I stopped at home to brush my teeth and start a load of laundry.

The filling didn't take very long and was virtually painless. The pain came when I had to pay the bill, lol!

I took Inkster back home. On a whim, I went to the Chinese takeout next to CVS on Plymouth Road. I got a quart of chicken fried rice. So, dinner was solved.

I watched the news for a while. When I got hungry, I ate a big bowl of the chicken fried rice.

When the news ended, I switched to reading in the living room, covered with a throw and a cat. When I started nodding off around midnight, I went to bed.

Monday, March 19, 2018

I was ill when I woke up on Sunday. I alternated between being freezing cold and sweating like a pig. Other than getting some coffee and a towel to wipe my face, I stayed in bed all day.

Sidebar: That was really a pity as it was  sunny and warm out for a change.

I ate some crackers and cheese when I got hungry. I also ate some Greek yogurt and a Honeycrisp apple.

Come Saturday Morning

I overslept on Saturday. It was because I was dreaming I was cold and just wanted to snuggle under the covers. When I finally woke up, I realized I was really cold! WTF?

I checked the thermostat and it was 67 degrees. I went downstairs to check on the furnace (which was running). The bi-fold door stuck so I ripped it off.

Sidebar: I am not apologizing nor explaining. I am merely reporting. I have anger issues at times.

The blower was running, but there was no flame. I tried turning it off and then back on (my IT training) but it didn't work.

I couldn't find Scott Pace's number, so I called Michelle. I got her voicemail. I left a message. Then I found Scott's number and called him. I got his voicemail. I left a message.

Sidebar: Remember this was like 7:30 a.m.

So, I got in the shower (at least that was warm). Sure enough, the phone rang. So, I totally soaked the little mat while I answered it. Scott said he couldn't come right away and I said I understood (its not like my pipes were freezing or anything) and I told him I had to get my stupid infusion anyway. So we agreed to meet around noon.

I got dressed and went to the doctor's.

On the way, I called Amanda. We were supposed to go to another Painting with a Twist with Keldon today and then she had a secret adventure planned for me.

Sidebar: Damn kid doesn't seem to understand that I like to be alone and stay in my house. She keeps dragging me places. Worse yet, I think my daughter Melissa is in on this effort as well!!!

Anyway, I'd already paid for my ticket at Painting with a Twist so I left her a message to take either one of her friends or one of Keldon's in my place. No sense wasting the money.

Sidebar: She took Megan, one of Keldon's classmates and his friend. They had a blast.

On the way back from the doctor's, I thought I'd stop at Bates for some biscuits and gravy (no sense rushing home to a cold house). But the little parking lot was full!

So, I went to Leo's Coney Island and got a half order with a cup of coffee. I was very disappointed. The gravy wasn't warm enough. I should have sent it back to get reheated. But, I was in a foul mood and just ate it anyway. Then I sat there for a long time, sucking down coffee refills and watching a cute waitress with nice boobs and an amazing butt.

I finally gave up, paid my $6.02 (plus tip) and went home. I changed clothes and got my tee-shirt of the day.

Sidebar: I usually wear a ripped up old one. But, after the Goodwill effort, I realized just how many tee-shirts I have that I never wear. So, I'll save the old ripped up one for something like painting and wear a new shirt everyday.

BTW, I bought a new tee-shirt (is that how you write it? I dunno. T-shirt, maybe?) just for Saint Patrick's Day.

Today's shirt (back)

Today's shirt (front) The barn is a local landmark and has a farmer's market in the summer.

Scott showed up around 11:30 a.m. He said he already knew what the problem was, based on our phone call (damn! He's good!). So, he took some gizmo off the back of the furnace and replaced it. I don't remember him telling me what it was, just that it was not the ignightor, which I thought it might be.

I asked him if it was time to replace the furnace, so he looked around and found it was installed  in 1996. So, it's 21 years old. He said it's not the age, but the level of carbon monoxide it emits. So, he let the furnace run a while and then put a handy-dandy tester next to the outlet in the downstairs bathroom.

Sidebar: I told him I have carbon monoxide testers in all the smoke alarms. He said that didn't really matter as I would be dead before it ever went off. Um, good to know. I told him I have a cat and if she's ever dead, I would leave the house immediately.

While we were waiting, Scott carefully put the door back on. Thanks, man. My bad...

His test device (which cost almost $400 because I asked) showed a level of 0.02. He said that NO CO2 was the norm, but it wouldn't kill me. However, if I wanted to replace the furnace it would be about $2K.

He mentioned that I wouldn't be using it all that much anymore and we could talk about it in the Fall.

We were bullshitting in the garage when he mentioned the kayack. I told him I bought it to go fishing on Newburgh lake, but never could figure out how to get in it or, worse yet, how to get out of it. I mean, I could ask Amanda (she's helped my ass up more times than I like to recall) but what would she do while I was fishing?

Anyway, he said he was too fat, but his skinny brother would like it. So, I traded it for the furnace repair.

Sidebar #1: Scott is not fat. He is just huge. He's shorter than me, but I have never properly shaken his hand. It's just too damn big. The only vestige I have from working in the factory is my wrists.

Sidebar #2: Jake told me at my age and severely diminished income, I need to learn to barter. I think I just did!!!

Sidebar #3: I was telling Amanda about the furnace going out and how I traded the kayak for the repair"Oh no! I was going to ask you to borrow that this summer!". I said, "Why in the hell didn't you tell me that?" She said, "Because it's winter!" I suppose there is some sort of logic here, but I still felt bad.

I went to a nearby deli that was offering St. Patrick Day dinners. I bought corned beef, roasted potatoes and cabbage for $11:00. I thought it was cheaper than buying the ingredients and making it myself. Plus, there would not be those damn leftovers.

The corned beef was excellent and the roasted potatoes were great. But the cabbage was overcooked and mushy. I didn't care. I thoroughly enjoyed my dinner!

I was feeling a little weird, so I laid down and watched TV for the rest of the night.

Friday's Road Trip

Friday morning, I had cold cereal (I prefer Honey Bunches of oats with almonds, myself) for breakfast. Then I shaved, showered and got dressed for my morning infusion.

My favorite nurse told me the test results came back and I do NOT have clostridium difficile (a nasty bowel infection that's hard to cure). That's good news/bad news. If I don't, why have I had constant diarrhea for the last three months?

Back home, I chilled for a moment and then hit the road to make my 12:45 p.m. appointment with my primary care physician.

I totally misjudged the time. In my defense, I have always gone on Saturday (since I was working) and traffic was a lot heavier. But, I was close with 45 minutes to spare. So, I decided to get lunch.

There were no fast food joints nearby, so I settled on a Chinese restaurant at Garfield and 16 Mile called May Hong. I know Ten Yen has spoiled me, but really? The won ton soup had a weird sweet flavor to the broth. And the chicken sub gum was mostly celery and carrots.

Sidebar: Carrots? Who the fuck puts carrots in a Chinese dish?

Worst of all was the rice. It was white rice!!! WTF???

So, seven bucks and a tip later, and pissed off, I went to the doctor's.

I spent some time at the window, changing my insurance.

It took a long while but I finally saw my doctor. She was concerned and ordered an EKG and blood work.

I passed the EKG with flying colors.

Sidebar: I always do. If and when I die, it will not be because of my heart. HEART STRONG!!!

They took about a gallon of my blood and then I met with the doctor again. Apparently, my giving the infectious disease doctor her card worked, because she was up to date on my treatment.

She said the stool sample I gave them (don't ask) only checked for clostridium difficile. so she gave me a mail in kit (thank God) to check for other problems. She doubled up on my blood pressure medicine and asked me to come back in two weeks.

I drove back home (you have no idea how difficult that is with impaired vision).

BTW, my friend B___ told me if I get in a wreck and they can prove I have cataracts, I  am screwed. But, Vicky and Amanda were working. Courtney is home with her three kids and everyone else is far away.

When I got home, I changed clothes and took a nap.

When I woke up, I thought I would make a frozen pizza. But that seemed like a lot of work. So I ate cheese and crackers again and fell asleep watching TV.

Friday, March 16, 2018

I woke up before the alarm on Thursday. Since I had the time, I made scrambled eggs for breakfast.

It was cold, but sunny on the way to the doctors. The sun warmed up the inside of the truck nicely! The sample I gave them yesterday was sent to the lab, but the results had not come in. So, more waiting and wondering...

When I got out of there, it was still cold, but cloudy. So, now it felt as cold as it was.

I stopped by the house to brush my teeth before proceeding to the dentist.

Sidebar: When I called and made the appointment to get my tooth looked at, Cindy asked me if I broke my tooth or loss a cap. I didn't know. Luckily for me, when it happened, I had put it in my shirt pocket (not wanting to gross out our waitress). So, I dug my shirt out of the dirty clothes basket and took it with me.

It turned out to be a cap!!! Which meant I wouldn't have to pay $2-3K out of pocket to have it capped. The dentist did say it had a slight hole in it that would need to be filled, but he could cement it back on for right now. So, they did that. Then I got my cleaning and my x-rays (previously scheduled for next Saturday).

Paying cash, I got a 15% senior discount. I paid $186.00 for today and made an appointment set up for next Monday at 2:00 p.m. to have the cap filled. That will cost another $110.00. So, I really lucked out!!!

I dropped off the bag of clothes at the Goodwill. Then I got the truck washed (to get rid of the salt) on the way home.

Once home, I changed clothes and got back to work. I swept the office, hallway and the bedroom wood floors. Then I mopped them with the Swiffer Jet wood cleaner. So, I was effectively stuck in the living room, kitchen and downstairs.

I began to clean the Keurig with more white vinegar. This takes a while, so in between, I washed all the glass surfaces in the living room. Once the Keurig tank and guts were clean, I started the dishwasher to clean the part of the Keurig where you place the cups (there were enough dishes and I was running out of silverware).

I moved everything out of the kitchen except for the table and swept the kitchen floor with a broom. Then I ran over it again with the electric sweeper. By that time, the wood floors were dry.

So, I got another bucket of hot water and Pine Sol and mopped the kitchen floor. That trapped me in the office, bedroom and bathroom.

My legs hurt, so I put my feet up on the bed and watched rest of the news.

Once the kitchen floor was dry, I moved all the chairs back in from the living room.

Amanda had called and asked if I wanted to go to dinner with her and Keldon after karate, but I told her I had too much stuff to do. So, I made a blue box of mac & cheese for dinner.

I ate that watching TV. Later on I had some grapes and half an apple for snacks.

I was tired and went to bed at 11:00 p.m.

Working Wednesday

I left for the doctor's an hour later on Wednesday. They had called and asked if I minded coming in later as they had overbooked my usual time by mistake. I really didn't care, except it meant I lost an hour on a day I swore I would get more of my lengthy ToDo list whittled down.

It was cold, but clear.

On the way back home, I stopped at Westborn for more grated Parmesan cheese. Since I was there anyway, I got some green graples and four HoneyCrisp apples.

I also stopped at CVS for some AAA batteries. The ones in my blood pressure cuff quit on Tuesday (but they were over a year old).

I got home just after 12:00 p. So, I ate a sandwich for lunch. Then I changed clothes and got to work.

I started with the Wednesday wash. Then I swept the downstairs floor. Upstairs, I cleaned the humidifier with white vinegar.

By then, the washer had stopped. I put the clothes in the dryer and got a bucket of hot water and Pine-Sol. I grabbed the mop and mopped the downstairs floor (first time in a long, long time). By the time I finished the water in the bucket was black!

Next, I started going through my clothes looking for things that no longer fit. I finished going through my dresser, the bedroom closet, the office closet and the downstairs closet. I filled another garbage bag! I put that in the truck to take to the Goodwill.

The floor was dry when the dryer went off, so I hung up or folded all the clothes.

I thought about it and decided to wash the downstairs floor again (that black water freaked me out). So, I prepared another bucket and mopped it all again. This time the water was just gray. I can live with that.

Note to self: Wash this floor every two weeks or so!

I was tired and hungry and it was after 6:00 p.m. So, I warmed up another bowl of Melissa and Dave's eggplant and artichoke. I topped that with some of the grated Parmesan cheese and dug in. Still deliciously different.

I cleaned up the kitchen. My legs were tired (I should have taken a break in there somewhere). So, I decided to quite for the night.

I watched TV until the news at 11:00 p.m. I watched that and then went to bed.

Wednesday, March 14, 2018

Then it was Tuesday

It was damn cold Tuesday morning! I had oatmeal for breakfast and then shaved, showered and got dressed for the doctor's. I got my infusion and then left to get my haircut.

From there, I stopped at Kroger's and got a few things I needed. Then I went home.

Amanda had to work a split shift (10:30 - 2:00 and then 5:00 to 10:00) due to a large party. Since it was Tuesday, she asked me if I wanted to meet her at Panera's for a late lunch.

Sidebar: Panera's soup of the day on Tuesday is chicken and rice which I had never tried, but Amanda said it was great.

So, I met her over there a little after 2:00 p.m. Before I left, I threw a big bag of my old (too big) pants in the truck.

She was right! The soup was great!

She asked me what I was doing the rest of the day and I said I was dropping off some clothes to the Goodwill (across Middlebelt). She said she would tag along and see if there were any good clothes for Keldon.

She bought an amazing amount of clothes for Keldon and three pair of jeans for herself for $38.00!

Then she left to get a pedicure and I went home.

There was a threat of snow between 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., but all we got around here were a few flakes, every now and then.

The doctor's office called and asked if I could come in for my infusion at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday. I said sure.

I went out later and took the trash and recycle bins around back. I got in the mail as well.

I ate that leftover Reuben sandwich and fries for dinner. I heated the sandwich in the microwave and the fries in the oven (so they wouldn't get soggy)

I watched my usual NCIS shows and went to bed at 11:30 (after the news).

Tuesday, March 13, 2018

On Monday morning, my blood sugar was really low. So, I ate a piece of hard candy I keep for emergencies.

My infectious disease doctor always sees me on Monday. I was supposed to be done on March 19, but I am still leaking and she thinks I should probably go for another week after that at least. She also said my blood pressure was still too high and suggested I go see my primary care physician.

Sidebar: I'm falling apart!!!

Back home, I rolled the trash can and the recycle bin out to the road before we get the promised snow.

Then I called the dentist. Earliest they can get me in is Thursday. I said I'd take it.

Next, I called my real doctor and got an appointment for Friday at 12:45.

It was lightly snowing, then it came back a bit harder. Still, nothing is sticking on the ground.

I had soup for lunch, then I took a nap.

When I woke up, I watched a DIY show and the the news.

I made some of that eggplant and artichoke pasta Melissa brought me for dinner. It was different, but very good! I still have a ton of it left. That was a big container!

I messed around on the computer and wrote out another check to another doctor. Then I went back to the TV.

We had a few snow squalls blow through and by the time I went to bed at 11:30 p.m. the grass and driveway were covered.

Monday, March 12, 2018

I went to my doctor's on Sunday and got my antibiotics. When they checked my vitals (they do every day) my blood pressure was really high. They checked it again a half hour later and it was still high.

I wasn't feeling all that good. So, I went home and went back to bed. I stayed there most of the day. I was either freezing or sweating.

I took out the pasta with eggplant and artichoke that Dave had made to thaw for dinner. But, it was in a big container and was still frozen when I went to warm it up. So, I just ate crackers and cheese with yet another hard boiled egg.

Sidebar: I had to call Melissa to see what it was called. It wasn't labeled and I forgot. We chatted for a bit then I went back to bed.

It was a complete waste of a Sunday.

Shitty Saturday

After my infusion on Saturday, I was back home around 10:00 a.m. I swept the kitchen floor and did two loads of laundry.

Sidebar: With these daily trips to the doctors, I keep running out of clothes. And don't get me started on how much gas I have to put in the truck!

Amanda called from Keldon's karate class (right down the road, next to Chin's Chinese restaurant and across from Roush Building 50 on Plymouth Road). She said she and Keldon were going to lunch at Chili's and did I want to come. I said sure.

We met there at 11:30 a.m. I got my usual: A buffalo chicken sandwich, but with Bleu cheese dressing instead of their normal ranch (some traditions must be sacred) and fries. Keldon got the mac & cheese off the kids menu with a side of Mandarin oranges. Amanda, after much hemming and hawing, ordered the chicken fajitas (she is still worried about eating hard food with her temporary tooth).

So, I'm happily eating away when I take a bit of my sandwich and break off MY tooth! WTF? It was a soft brioche bun and a chicken breast. Nothing hard. I went in the bathroom and checked. Sure enough, it was the top tooth on the left side of my two front teeth!

I went back to the table and yelled at Amanda, telling her she had somehow infected me. She made me smile and said, "Yep, there's a gap." Then she said something I thought was odd. She said, "Well, the good news is that you don't smile that much, so nobody will notice."

They left to go see the movie "Ferdinand" at the dollar show near  their house. I declined and went home.

I turned all the clocks ahead in the house (there are eight in all). But I completely forgot the one in the truck.

I watched some TV. I wasn't all that hungry, so I just ate some pretzel rods dipped in yogurt for dinner. I went to bed around 11:00 p.m., so I missed Saturday Night Live.

Saturday, March 10, 2018

Finally Friday

I woke up early on Friday. I had no internet!!! But, I didn't have time and just left early for the doctor's. My favorite nurse was there and we did a little flirting.

Sidebar: Not that it matters. As I told you before, I generally fall in love with one of the nurses while I am in the hospital or in treatment. But, she's married and I am like 40 years older than her. So, it was harmless.

On the way back home, I stopped at the Looney Bakery and bought a dozen donuts and two glazed donuts in a separate bag. I tried to buy a salt bagel, but once again, they were sold out.

From there, I drove to Courtney and Mike's house to drop off the box of donuts. I had a rather long, intensive chat with her son Christian about his pirate ship toys, my cane and boo-boos. Courtney seemed okay, so that made me feel better.

Mike pulled in, just as I was leaving. I asked him how the hell he knew I had brought donuts. He laughed and said he didn't.

Sidebar: I was on the road and truckin' when I saw Courtney's Tupperware bowl and Mike's cell phone charger (from my hospital stay). They were sitting right next to the box of the donuts, but I forgot them.

I stopped at Starbuck's and got a large hot chocolate for Amanda. Then I drove to Time Out. I gave her the glazed donuts (she's afraid to eat anything hard) and the hot chocolate.

I was a little early but they know me. So, I ordered the Reuben sandwich and fries off the Special's menu.

Sidebar: It's a little, old trivia that I know, but did you know the original Reuben did NOT have Thousand Island dressing on it? It was Russian dressing. Not common these days, but you can still buy it.

I ate half of the sandwich and half of the fries (I whispered to Amanda the ones at the Black Label Tavern were a lot better - she laughed and she said she knew that). I got a box and took the rest home.

On the way home, I stopped at Home Depot and got some furnace filters. I was supposed to switch them out March 1st. I normally do every three months on the dot (it's written on the calendar), but I missed it on March 1.

Back home, I tackled the internet problem. The new WOW setup is really different from Brighthouse so I had four or five unused cables by the computer. I finally realized that it's all controlled by the DVR box under the TV which provides my computer internet wirelessly. So, I unplugged that. I gave it a few moments and plugged it back in. It took while to reboot. But, when it did, I was back online!

My time working in IT was not misspent!!!

For dinner, I passed on leftovers and ate two hard boiled eggs slathered with the new horseradish I bought. Man that was hot!!!

I watched some TV, but then my daughter Melissa called. We talked a long, long time. When we finally hung up, I went to bed.

Sidebar: I want you to know that I did not NOT post the blog earlier due to my neglect. I lost my internet and couldn't.

So, on Thursday, I went to my infusion. I did eat a bowl of cereal and milk for breakfast around 6:00 a.m. But on the way home at 10:00 I was hungry. I was going to stop at Bates for some biscuits and gravy, but their little parking lot was full. So, I stopped at my Leo's Coney Island (next to the Home Depot on Middlebelt) and got a half order and a cup of coffee (I usually never order coffee in restaurants, but it was snowing, windy and really cold). It cost me $6.02, but it was  worth it.

Back home, I did a load of laundry, unloaded the dishwasher and started putting the newest dirty dishes inside.

Now, Amanda had a school field trip with Keldon in the morning (at High Velocity in Canton) and a dentist appointment in the afternoon (she lost a visible filling and was really embarrassed about it). I knew all this.

Sidebar: She always volunteers to drive some of the kids to their field trips.

So, after the field trip, she dropped Keldon and the other kids back at school and called to ask if I wanted to go to lunch. I said sure, even though she sounded pissed.

Sidebar: I have been married twice and can handle pissed off women (sometimes - otherwise, I just divorce them, lol.)

So, she showed up around 12:30 p.m., still pissed. We sat and talked for a bit while she vented. Seems like High Velocity is a three story building with sports activities. On the second floor, Keldon started coughing, so she went out to the car to get his inhaler. But, when she got back, the teacher said he couldn't finish the field trip, because he walked to the railing and spit over it onto the first floor. So, he had to just sit there and read, while the rest of the kids played.

I tried to explain that was a boy thing and boys will be boys. That wasn't working, so I gave up.

We talked about lunch and finally (it was a long discussion) decided on the Black Label Tavern (Plymouth Road past Farmington). We went there once before and she was there with her family another time.

She was worried about eating anything hard (because of her tooth), so she got the pulled pork sandwich with some of the best damn fries I ever tasted (we often share food if we think its good). I got the loaded baked potato soup and something they called the "Very Berry Salad."

That was the best salad I ever had! It had sliced strawberries, big black berries, blueberries, dried cranberries, raisins, crunchy nuts, and feta cheese with a very light raspberry vinegaret dressing over wild greens.

I took home most of the soup (I can't eat all that much these days. My stomach is all messed up.) But I finished that salad!

She took home half of her sandwich for Scott and then we left.

We sat in the living room and bullshitted for a couple of hours. Then she left to get Keldon, drop him off at her mother's and go to the dentist.

I was texting my friend Courtney when she mentioned that she had a miscarriage yesterday. That bummed me out. But, as I told her, she already has three boys under four years old and maybe it was time to give her body a break. She just laughed and said her and Mike were going to try again in the Fall.

Amanda sent me a text after the dentist. It didn't go well. They could only do a temporary filling and she'll need either a crown or a bridge, neither of which are cheap. So, I was bummed again.

I used the last of Melissa's lunch meat to make a huge turkey sandwich with Swiss cheese, lettuce and mayonnaise for my dinner, along with one of her pickles.

I watched "Young Guns" and "Young Guns II" and then finally fell asleep around 1:30 a.m..

I finally have something to tell you. Amanda picked up myself and her mother, Fran and we went to bingo.

For the first time, I won one! I think Amanda was more excited  than I was. I had to split the payoff with another lady, so I only got $30.00. But, I got to yell Bingo!

Monday and Tuesday

It's getting to be that my infusion is the most exciting thing in my days. Monday and Tuesday were no different...

I am counting on this dry spell ending once I can get outside and do some gardening or woodworking. It just needs to be warmer and I need to feel better.

After the doctor's, I went to breakfast with Amanda and Keldon. I met them at the Big Boy's on Ford Road in Dearborn. But there was long line and a 35 minute wait. Keldon had a birthday party to get to, so we left there and went to Leo's Coney Island (also on Ford Road). I had a full order of biscuits and sausage gravy, Amanda had a half order and Keldon got two eggs over easy, bacon and dry wheat toast.

That was the highlight of my day.

Saturday was yet another boring day. After the doctor's, I did some cleaning and washed the bedding. I also did some reading in the living room.

Belated Birthday Shoutout

I completely missed Jyl's birthday on Tuesday! Sorry. :(

Hump Day

I went and got my IV on Wednesday. As usual, I turned the cell phone to vibrate, as Amanda usually calls me on her way to work and I don't want to bother the other patients.

Sidebar: this will become important a bit later.

From there, I went to the Nissan dealership to get the truck serviced. I had already scheduled the appointment because, it's no where near the mileage, but long past the due date. I figured it might take an hour or so, but they said there had been a recall on something or another on the transmission and it might take two hours! I got my estimate for $60.00 (the recall was free).

Sidebar: I know that's a little more than at one of the instant oil change places, but they also rotate the tires, check tire depth and the brakes, etc. Plus, I paid for the extended warranty, so if anything ever comes up, I have a record of all my service dates.

I said, "Okay" and went and got a cup of coffee and a really good bagel in the waiting room.

They came back an hour and a half with some dirty filters ( my air cleaner and the cabin filter). They both were dirty and they asked me if I wanted them replaced. I, of course, said, "Sure."

I finished my book and was bored af by the time they came to tell me the truck was ready. My $60.00 estimate turned out to be $186.42!!! WTF? The filters weren't that expensive, it was the labor.

So, what? You had to hire a midget to climb up the duct work and replace the cabin filter?

I paid the damn money and was home after 2:00 p.m.

I checked the phone and saw I missed a call from my brother Joe. The phone was still on vibrate.

We talked for a long time. I assured him I was doing okay. He said they were headed out in a few days for yet another cruise, this time for China and Japan. I wished them well and took a nap.

Sidebar:My sleep cycle is all fncked up. I can't stay awake in the afternoon and can't sleep during the night.

Amanda's call woke me up. She was just leaving Keldon's karate class at 6:30 p.m. and wondered if I wanted to get some dinner at Daly's (an old school restaurant at Plymouth and Merriman - been there for years.)

So, I agreed. But, it was not pleasant. I was still pissed about the cost of the truck and she had had a bad day at work.

So, neither of us was a good dinner companion. Poor Keldon!

We left and continued our debate texting at home. At one point I wrote "If I wanted to spend dinner with a bitch, I would have asked one of my two ex-wives." Yeah, not cool.

Later on, she sent a text asking me if this was our first fight. I saw that and couldn't keep from laughing. So, I sent her a text apologizing. She responded that she was sorry as well.

I tried to watch the first episode of a mini-series about the death of Tupac and B.I.G. Notorious that I had taped.

But I fell asleep in the middle of it..
