The Saturday Story

I stayed up too late reading on Friday, so I didn't wake up until 8:00 a.m. on Sunday! I had to hustle as I had errands to run, a lunch date and it was snowing.

So, I got some coffee, ate breakfast and took my pills. Then I shaved, showered and got dressed.

I drove to Kroger's in the snow. Side streets (like mine) were slippery, but main roads were salted and just wet. I got the few items I needed and decided to forego the Home Depot run. It was getting late.

I got home and unpacked the groceries. I had just finished up when I got a text from Amanda, saying they were on the way.

Sidebar: Amanda wanted to do some Christmas shopping for Keldon. So, she asked me if I could watch him for an hour or so (Scott was at work). She bribed me by saying she'd buy me lunch. I can easily be bribed with food, so I said yes.

They picked me up and we went to Archie's. I had second breakfast (two eggs over easy, hash browns and link sausage), Keldon had the kid's spaghetti and Amanda just had a cup of French onion soup.

She dropped us off at the house and went on her way.

Keldon spent some time reading me a book about monsters. He asked if he could read the next book to himself, so I got my book and we read by the fire for a while. He got bored with that and started playing with some action figures he brought. I kept hearing this weird electronic beep every five to ten minutes. I decided it must be coming from the office smoke detector

So, I grabbed the wood footstool and took it in the office. Keldon followed me there. He asked if he could try on my motorcycle helmet and I said sure (it's not like I'm using it, LOL). So, I took a picture for his mother.

I got down the smoke detector and set it in the living room to catch it beeping.

Sidebar: When the batteries are low, it normally beeps every 30 seconds and then says "Low Battery." So, this was weird.

A while later, the beep happened again, but not from the smoke detector now in the living room. So, I replaced it and took down the one in the bedroom. I put that in the living room.

Amanda got back around 2:00 p.m. We were talking while Keldon packed up his stuff and the beep happened again! But not from that smoke detector!!! They left and I was left with an annoying beep that comes from who knows where...

It had stopped snowing by then, but I didn't really notice when exactly it quit. I doubt if we got more than an inch here.

With my company gone, I got to work and cleaned the downstairs bathroom.

Sidebar: I use it daily, but clean it at random, so its never an easy chore.

Then I put up all the Christmas decorations. House looks "festive," LOL!

I was sitting on the bed, watching TV and eating dinner (the last of Kathy's cabbage soup) when the beep happened again! The bedroom smoke detector was still in the living room, so I finally figured it out! It was coming from the NOAA weather station! So, I replaced the batteries.

I cleaned up the dinner dish and went back to watching TV. The beep happened again! Disgusted, I unplugged the damn thing. I will have to find my owner's guide or go online to figure out what it is trying to tell me.

I couldn't find anything interesting at 9:00 p.m., so I read in the living room, surrounded by Christmas decorations and lulled by the fire. I dozed off and woke up at 12:30 a.m. I shut off the lights and fireplace and went to bed.
