Sunday Road Trip

So, I woke up on Sunday around 7:30 a.m. I ate the last two Eggo waffles for breakfast, took my pills and started the Sunday morning chores. I also started the last load of weekend wash (cat threw up on the bed).

Then I shaved, showered and got dressed. I sent a text to Erik just before 11:00 a.m., asking if it was too early to come get the drill press. He said, "No, that's fine." It was at his brother Forrest's house in Fair Haven, just off Marine City Highway and Palms Road.

So, I plugged the address into the phone and headed out. It took me just over an hour (it was a hike!)

When I got there, both Forest and Erik were off, running errands. So, I sat outside and chatted with their mother, Betsy (who I've know all my life). They were setting up for another outdoor party. Apparently, they had one yesterday, too. I suppose its a going away party for friends and family to say goodbye to Erik, who is heading back to Massachusetts (I think) tomorrow.

Sidebar: Betsy told me my brother Carl was supposed to come today, LOL!

Forest, came back first, with tons of ice (it looked like they had seating for 50 people in the garage and outside). He said the drill press was heavy and he wanted to wait for Erik to help him load it.

Erik finally showed up. He had made a run to a farmer's market for more sweet corn. Apparently they had bought enough for both days, but left the uncooked corn outside. During the night, raccoons ate it all up!

So, he showed me all the features (which I will never remember) and then they loaded it. I used the truck bed extender to lock it into place between the tailgate. I made my goodbyes and then started backing out of the driveway when I heard a crash! I forgot to lock the tailgate. I took care of that and headed home.

Another hour and I was back home with my prize.

Now, how to unload it?

I went out to water the vegetable garden and saw my neighbor, so I asked him if he could help me.

Sidebar: I figured I could take the light end (if there was one). He said he had a buddy coming over soon and they would get it out. Problem solved.

About an hour later, the doorbell rang and they easily got it out of the truck and onto the garage floor.

Now, I just have to figure out who's going to pick it up when I get the garage finished and want to bolt it to the work bench, LOL!

I made the mushroom agnolotti with Alfredo sauce for my Sunday supper.

Side: Yes, brother Carl, the package suggests Buitoni marinara sauce.topped with Parmesan cheese. But, I like it this was.

I watched a variety of shows on TV and then went to bed at 11:00 p.m.

Saturday, in the park...

(and no, it was NOT the fourth of July - it was the 29th.)

I woke up around 6:30 a.m. on Saturday. I made soft boiled eggs for breakfast. Next I shaved, showered and got dressed, and then headed out to Kroger's for a quick shopping trip. I didn't need much, just some cat food and dish detergent, so, it was in and out and I was headed back home.

About 11:00 a.m. Amanda pulled in and we were off on our latest adventure. We were originally supposed to go swimming, but my trip to Kroger's convinced me it was too damn chilly for that. After a few texts, we had decided to go fishing instead.

So, I loaded up my tackle box and fishing pole and we headed south on Telegraph, going damn near all the way to the end and the state park in Flat Rock.We stopped at a gas station just before the entrance and bought some night crawlers.

We walked (and walked) to a a spot she liked, but the steep incline and rocky surface proved a bit too much for me and she had to help me down. I couldn't stand on the rocks, so I ended up sitting down on the shore and fishing from there. Next time I will bring a chair. It was beautiful, though, and not too hot, with a nice breeze.

I had lots of activity (way more than Newburgh Lake) but never actually hooked a fish. But Amanda  caught two little ones!

I gave up after a couple of hours and she help me up and back to level ground and a park bench. I watched her fish until she was done and it was nice to sit in the sun. Then we made the long trek back to the car.

We grabbed some lunch at a restaurant called Pete's Place on the way back home.

She said her and Scot were having a bonfire that night and invited me over. I told her my legs were trashed and I'd have to pass. All I wanted to do was take a nap.

So, I got in a short nap and then called Carla to see how she was doing. I just got her voicemail. Then I called my daughter, Melissa, and we talked for a bit.

I checked on my gardens and found the container ones were dry. So, I watered them, this time mixing in some Mirical-Gro fertilizer. The herb garden and vegetable gardens were both still damp, so I left them alone.

But I did find a nice yellow summer squash, so that became dinner, sliced thin and sauteed in butter.

I watched TV until 11:00 p.m. and then went to bed.

Saturday, July 29, 2017

After more or less taking the week off, (other than doing laundry and making dinners), I figured I better get back to work.

Sidebar: In spite of leaving three voicemails, I was unable to get in touch with Erik. So, I am unsure where that's all at.

It's not supposed to rain until Wednesday or Thursday, so I spent the morning watering my gardens.

I made two hotdogs and a can of Bush's baked beans for a late lunch/early dinner.

Erik finally called me back and I'm picking up the the drill press Sunday morning.

I watched some taped TV and went to bed by 10:00 p.m.

Birthday party pictures

Busy Saturday

I woke up at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday. I ate more toast (this time with Smucker's jam) and my pills for breakfast.

Sidebar: I would have just bought some of those Tennessee Pride biscuits (which I love), but now that I am unemployed, THEY ARE EXPENSIVE.

Sidebar: What was I thinking all these years?

So, when I put them back in the freezer at Kroger's, I decided next time I go shopping, I'll buy a roll of pork sausage and, using the ingredients I have at home, make my own biscuits. It's not like I don't have the time...

I watched the weather report and, yes, like they forecasted, there were heavy storms. But they were above I-696 and below I-94. Dammit!!! They missed my lawn again.

So, I did a load of laundry and waited for Amanda's call. We had agreed on Friday that, weather permitting, we would do something on a lake Saturday morning (either fishing or swimming). But when she called, she said it was raining in Dearborn (where she and Scott live).

We reviewed options (bearing in mind I had to be home by 2:00 p.m. for Yanessa's party). We finally settled on something called Hosanna Palooza, 2017. It was supposed to be an arts and craft display at a local Redford church, on grass (thank God), with live music and 60 vendors. She picked me up around 11:00 a.m. and we headed out.

It was less than 10 minutes away. It was sprinkling on the way there, but still no real rain.

When we got there, yes, there was live music. But it was Christian Rock. Doubt most of you have ever heard it, but it's gets kinda annoying after a few moments. Plus, apparently the rain threat had scared off most of the vendors.  There were like 10. One jewelry tent, and a candle place, an in-chair massage therapist and some hand-made garden tools...

We spent maybe 10 minutes there when I asked her if we could leave. I couldn't take that damn music, anymore.

So, we reviewed other options in the car. I suggested breakfast but then she said, "Archie's!" We high-fived and headed out.

Sidebar: We have had a long term debate about this. French onion soup. I love it, but only eat it alone. The cheese is stringing and gets in my beard. The only person I ever felt comfortable eating it with was Victoria. That's when I knew we were soul mates.

So, I said the best I ever had around here was at Applebee's. She said, "No way, Archie's has the best."

So, we went there. We both ordered the soup and the saganaki (the "opa" fired cheese shit) with pita bread.

I am sure we both looked stupid eating the soup. But neither of us cared and I think I found another soul mate. Or at least someone who doesn't care that I look like a slob.

Sidebar: Never argue with a waitress. That was the best French onion soup I ever tasted.

Then we went to Westland, looking for garage sales. (I think I  told you she is crazy about these) . We found four and one estate sale.

She bought a tin for Christmas cookies, a t-shirt for her son  and some books for him as well. I didn't see anything interesting. I am much more specific. I am looking for silverware. A friend told me the secret to determining what is actual silver (worth money) versus silver plated.

So, I'll let her drag my ass to garage sales (plus she's cute and fun to hang out with.)

We were back home long before 2:00 p.m. We played porch monkeys (her words, not mine) where we sit out front or on the back patio and she smokes a cigarette. Newports, my God! WTF?

A truck pulled in and the guy delivered my HDTV indoor antenna. I am going to dump my cable, Don't use it that much and can't afford it these days.

We made our goodbyes and I took a quick shower. Then I left for Yanessa's birthday party.

I took I-96 to the Southfield and drove ten miles south to the Lincoln Park skating rink. Five minutes before I got there, it started raining like hell. Naturally, I had to park in back and walk to the front. I had to hunch over to protect my present (two books). By the time I got inside, I was soaked and the color had come off the wrapping paper and onto my arm. Everybody commented on my new tattoo, LOL.

It was a much smaller group that Yanessa's past birthday parties (maybe 20 people maximum). The kids skated and the adults visited. About 4:30 p.m., they brought out slices of pizza. After eating, Yanessa opened her presents. They kicked us out at 6:00 p.m. to make room for another party. I made my goodbyes and headed back home.

I took the rest of the night off.

Saturday, July 22, 2017

Friday was yet another hot, muggy day. The weatherman said occasional showers, but it never rained here (again).

I did more computer work and some minor housecleaning.

Amanda sent me a text at 4:00 p.m. (she works until 5:00 on Friday), telling me she was hungry. I replied that I was NOT going to drive all that way to bring her food. She replied back (laughing) that she didn't want me to bring her food. She wanted to know if I'd like to go to dinner, since Scott had to work until 8:00 p.m.

Sidebar: I was getting a little tired of both hot dogs and hamburgers.

So, I cleaned up and put long pants on. She swung by around 5:30 and we went to Red Lobster.

I had my usual: The half order of shrimp linguine, a Caesar salad and those delicious biscuits. She had the shrimp scampi, a baked potato (?) and the Caesar salad.

Even though it was Friday night, it wasn't that crowded. So, we sat and talked for a long time.

Then she dropped me off and went on her way.

I found  a channel that was having a "Young Guns" marathon that had started at 7:00 p.m. So, I watched the rest of Young Guns and then Young Guns II and went to bed around 12:30 a.m.

Photo Bomb

Jake, photo bombing a picture of my mother and her favorite sons, LOL!

(Seriously, I think Carl was taking the picture)

Friday, July 21, 2017

Then it was Thursday

I woke up at 7:30 a.m. on Thursday. I ate some toast with honey for breakfast before taking my pills.

I spent some time on the computer before shaving, showering and getting dressed. Then I started cleaning the house.

I had a salad for lunch, and then went back to the computer.

Now, the project for today was both more computer work and fixing the front porch rocker.

Sidebar: That rocker is at least twenty years old and was cheap when I bought it back in St. Clair. I have repaired and repainted it several times.

Anyway, time got away from me and the next thing I knew it was after 3:00 p.m. I went out to get the mail and it was hotter then hell and hard to breathe.

On the way back in, I checked the container gardens and they were dry. This heat is sucking the moisture out of them!

Sidebar: What's throwing me off on the watering is that, every day on the morning news, they predict rain, but then it doesn't. WTF?

So, the rocker repair went on hold.

I hand-watered all the container gardens.  Then I watered the raised bed herb garden with the rain wand. Finally, I dragged the hose out to the vegetable garden and hooked up the sprinkler.

Sidebar: I have friends on Facebook who are posting harvests of double handfuls of green beans. I finally got three beans and two peas, LOL. I ate them onsite.

I went back inside, set the timer for an hour and laid on the bed, enjoying the A/C.

When the timer went off, I went back outside, shut off the water, wound up the hose and went back inside.

I warmed up the first burger for dinner and ate that with the last of the potato salad.

Sidebar: I ate it on a slice of sourdough bread, cut in half, with mustard and mayonnaise. It was thick and juicy and tasted excellent. But the Wendy's Junior Bacon cheeseburger was way more impressive,

I watched TV until bedtime.

Warm Wednesday

It was still hot and sticky, even when I woke up, on Wednesday. I had a long night of little sleep, again.

I shaved, showered and got dressed in shorts and a t-shirt. I made some scrambled eggs for breakfast.

I waited until after 9:00 a.m and then called the Redford Townships offices about my trash. It was still sitting out there, full. I got redirected to the new waste service.

Sidebar: The township switched waste pickup services in July.

I was on hold for at least 20 minutes (I was originally the 16th caller on hold), but I finally talked to a human. I explained that no one had picked up my trash and asked if they just wanted me to put it back out next week (not my favorite option). They took down my name and address and said to leave it out, they would send the "supervisor" truck to get it.

Sidebar: This pick up service offers free garbage and recycle cans than can be picked up with a robot arm. But, apparently, I have to go to their website and ask for them.

Then I went back to the computer and spent several hours trying to get my loan number for Nissan Finance. I am sure they originally sent it to me, but I can't find it! But, I finally got it and then got my payoff. I think with draining all my savings and a 401k distribution, I can pay this off. No way can I afford close to a $500.00 a month payment on just Social Security. But, there goes my safety net...

I went and took a nap.

I woke up at 3:00 p.m. I ate two hot dogs for a late lunch/early dinner.

At 4:30 p.m., I shaved, showered and got dressed in street clothes.  Then I putzed until after 5:30 p.m., when Amanda and her mother, Fran, picked me up for bingo.

While I was waiting, I checked outside and the trash had been emptied. So, I retrieved my trashcan and the mail. Damn, it was stifling out there!

They finally showed up and we headed ou to the Wolverine Sports and Conservation Club on Grand River and Inkster. They waned to show me playing bingo with what they called "machines."

Sidebar:It's basically a tablet. You get a lot more cards that are filled in electronically. But a LOT more expensive.

I also bought two sheets of cards this time, instead of the usual one I am used to. By comparison, Amanda and her Mom buy three.

But, by God, I spent four hours of intense concentration to not miss any numbers. I completely ignored the tablet.

Sidebar: I think this is why I like bingo. You can read or watch TV and your thoughts will wander to things (like money) that bother you. You cannot do this with real bingo. You have to focus.

At the end of the night, Fran had won $150.00 and Amanda $50.00. I still had nothing...

On the way home, we stopped at Wendy's. They were hungry (I was not) but we all ordered the Wendy's Junior bacon cheese burgers. They ate theirs in the car, I took mine home.

Amanda carried in my food for me. We said our goodbyes and, after they left, I ate mine.

Sidebar: First time I'd tried it, but it was really good.  Fries were cold, though.

I was wired from the bingo, so couldn't fall asleep until about 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 19, 2017

I woke up to the alarm on Tuesday. I had a scheduled haircut at 9:00, so I shaved showered and got dressed. I put the trash out to the road before I left.

I got my hair cut and then went to Kroger's and finally did my grocery shopping. I stopped at the bank and deposited my last paycheck (for some odd reason, they always mail the last one).

It was around 11:00 a.m. when I got home and it was already hot and sticky. So, I changed my clothes and stayed inside. I made some coleslaw and stuck it in the fridge to get happy.

About 5:00 p.m., I started some charcoal. I grilled four burgers (for later) and a package of hot dogs.

Back inside, I ate a hot dog with some coleslaw and some Kroger deli potato salad.

I went out to get the empty trashcan, but it was still full! WTF?

I watched my usual Tuesday night shows (both reruns) and went to bed after the evening news.

Tuesday, July 18, 2017

It was warm and sticky on Monday.

So, I spent the day inside, on the computer, working on various financial strategies and paying bills.

Sidebar: the future does not look all that bright, LOL!

I ended up by starting to list the things I can cut.

I went to bed depressed and got little or no sleep all night long.

Slow Sunday...

It was supposed to rain mid-morning, so I stayed home. My legs were killing me. Plus, if you remember, I'd washed the truck and didn't want to mess it up.

When it hadn't rained by 3:00 p.m., I started hand watering the container gardens. First came the mailbox garden.

As I watered each garden, I weeded it as well. Finally, I weeded the vegetable garden. That soil was do dry, I hooked up the sprinkler  and let it run for an hour.

When I was back here, I noticed a tree branch stuck in a tree.

I took that over to the fence. And that's when I saw a big cottonwood branch had crashed onto my fence.

I got up what I could lift, but had to leave the big one. I'll see if my neighbor wants it for his fire pit.

I went back inside and spent the rest of the day with my feet up, reading in my chair.

Saturday Road Trip.

I woke up to the alarm at 7:00 a.m. I ate some toast and ate my pills. Then I shaved, showered and got dressed.

I dressed in long pants instead of my Puerto Rican shorts as it was cool out. I went outside and sat on the bird house bench, waiting for Amanda.

We were going to the Wyandotte Street Art Fair. But, first, breakfast!

She arrived and we headed out.

We ate at Gest Omelettes, just down Plymouth Road before Beech Daly. She had scrambled eggs and hash browns, with white toast. I figured, hey, it's an omelet joint, right? So, I ordered the Southern Omelet, hash browns and rye toast.

Mine was good and I ate about half of it before my stomach said: Enough!!!

She insisted on paying and, since I am unemployed, I gave in.

Then we headed out. We got stuck in traffic with a bad accident trying to get on the Southfield freeway. But then we were on our way again.

While we were driving, I told her the amusing (I thought) story of me stuck on the grass yesterday. She was not amused. She was pissed. She said, "Why in the f*ck didn't you call me?" I explained I was working outside and don't carry my phone. She said, unless I was going to get a Life Alert necklace, I better start. Good point, I suppose...

When we were almost there, my stomach was acting up, so I told her the first thing we had to do when we got there was to find a bathroom. She said, "I'll find you a bathroom" and she did! We pulled into a Wendy's and I used their facilities.

When we arrived, I paid the $5.00 parking field and we walked over to the fair.

Sidebar: In my mind, I thought it would be like the ones we had in St. Clair: On the grass, in a park, with some 50 or 60 vendors. We'd take a stroll, check it out and then leave.

No, this was on Biddle Avenue, a city street, some five blocks long with hundreds of vendors and thousands of people.

Then we started walking, or rather shuffling. There were too many people to take a decent step (I think that's what did me in). I occasionally took photos of things that interested me.

This one was oil on canvas and, had I the money, I would have bought it. Beautiful!!!

These were all done with spray paint!

At one point, we stopped and got some fresh-squeezed lemonade that was deliciously refreshing. By then it was hot in the sun.

Anyway, we walked, and walked and walked. Just after turning back, my knees started to give out. I kept stumbling. At one point, she had to grab my arm to keep me from going down.

Note to self: Next time bring the rolling walker, not just the damn cane.

Near the end, she asked somebody going the other way what they were eating. She was behind me and so I didn't hear their response. I asked her about it and she said "Strudel! And it's just ahead!!!"

Sidebar: I don't know shit about strudel.

But we finally made it to the strudel tent and she bought half a piece of cherry (they had apple and something else as well). We had until they got it out of the oven. She offered me some, but I declined. Too much sugar. It looked like puff pastry, wrapped around cherry pie filling and then dusted with powdered sugar.

She kept moaning as she ate it, until I thought she might have an orgasm.

We finally (FINALLY) made it to the car and I gratefully sat down. Amanda still had some strudel left, so she said she was going to throw it away before we left. She asked again if I wanted it. At first I said no, then I said, okay, one bite.

OMG! That was the best damn dessert item I ever tasted! No orgasm, but I definitely moaned.

We made three stops on the way home. One at her place in Dearborn (so I could go pee) and two at yard sales (the girl is a yard sale junkie). On the other hand, she spent just $12 on twelve t-shirts for her son's next school term, so I guess it's worth it.

We were slowed by a major accident on the Southfield, just a mile from our exit onto I-96.

But, we finally got home. We sat on the patio to decompress while she smoked a cigarette. Then we made our goodbyes and she was gone.

I took an extra Celebrex, took my clothes off and went to bed. It was 4:30 p.m.

Now, here's the sad thing. I had a private, personal invitation to a birthday party for Victoria's brother Luis that started at 5:00 p.m. It's been a long time since I've seen these folks or ate that delicious food! But, I got the invite on Friday, when Wyandotte was already locked and loaded. I told Vicky at the time I was already booked, but I would see what I could do.

But, there was nothing I could do. I was trashed.

My daughter, Melissa called (we had been playing phone tag for the last few days) We talked for a long time.

Then I went to sleep.

Saturday, July 15, 2017

Finally Friday, LOL!

I woke up at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. I ate some toast and honey for breakfast while I watched the news.

I finally got around to getting shaved, showered and dressed.

I wanted to wash the truck. I'll probably be doing it in the driveway with the hose soon enough, but today I used the touch-less one just down the street. But, before I did, I went to the Checker's (just in front of CVS) and got a cheeseburger for lunch. Then I ran the truck though the car wash. I drove it home and left it in the driveway.

I ate my burger and most of the fries and then went out and toweled it dry.

Back inside, I changed into my shorts and t-shirt. After a rest on the bed, I went back out into the heat.

I got the wheelbarrow out of the shed and went back to weeding.

It didn't take much, bending over and pulling weeds, before my back started hurting. Then I had what I thought was a brilliant idea! I'd weed sitting down!!!

Now that has it's own problems. You don't have nearly as much leverage sitting as standing. But, I got a full wheelbarrow.

Then came the real problem: getting back up. I tried several ways to do it with no success. Finally, I tried holding onto the wheelbarrow and tipped it over on me.

Sidebar: I really hate looking stupid in front of my neighbors.

But I used the tipped over (and now more stable) wheelbarrow to help me up. I reloaded it and then dumped it in the field next store.

Sidebar: Next time, I'll remember to take my cane out with me.

I put the wheelbarrow back in the shed, locked it and went back inside.

I was sweating like a pig, so after another rest on the bed, I took a rinse-off shower.

I used the rest of the ham and onions to make scrambled eggs for dinner. It was much better than yesterday's omelet!

When it was dusk, the fireflies came out. They are never as numerous as back on the farm at 24 Mile Road, but I like watching them.

I watched the movie "Alex Cross." It was set in Detroit. Now here's the funny thing. Just this week, one of the news stories was about an abandoned church with amazing architecture in Detroit. Well, in the movie, there was a kickboxing match in that same old church!

I went to bed at12:30 a.m. after watching the news and the Tonight Show.

Friday, July 14, 2017

Then it was Thursday...

As I said in the last post, a very loud thunderstorm woke me up around 5:00 a.m. I tried, but it was too noisy to go back asleep. So, I filled in the Blog post. Then I sat on the couch and watched it rain.

I finally decided to go back to bed. Four hours of sleep was not enough!

I woke up at an amazing 9:30!

I made a cup of coffee and two of my free blueberry Eggo's for breakfast. Then I took my pills.

It was overcast and muggy, BTW.

I left for Home Depot around 12:30 p.m. I got everything on my list except for the plant hanger. I grabbed a hot dog on the way out for lunch and ate it in the truck.

By then, I was drenched with sweat. So, I changed into my shorts (forget the t-shirt) and went out back.

There was another half inch of rain in the gauge.

Then I began today's project: Straightening out the shed.

Note to self: Never, EVER, try straighenig out the shed (with no ventilation) on a hot, muggy day again!

It took me a couple of hours, but I got it done.

Back inside, I washed off the sweat with a wash cloth (should  have taken a shower) and then took a nap.

When I woke up, I started dinner. I sauteed a diced onion in some butter and olive oil. Then I added in an eight ounce package of small-diced ham. I didn't realize just how much water there was in the package. So, I let that boil out.

I think that was my mistake...

I took half of the ham and onions out for another day and added in three whisked eggs. When the eggs had set, I topped it with two slices of American cheese.

But, when I went to flip my omelet in half, it had all stuck to the pan! It was a hot mess!!!

I should have added more butter before adding the eggs.

Sidebar: This is why there is no picture of the omelet.

But, it tasted good.

I watched Set It Off on the Centric channel and then some taped TV until the 11:00 p.m news. Then I went to bed.

Thursday, July 13, 2017

I awoke on Wednesday at 6:30 a.m. Note: This seems to be the new "normal" after waking up at 5:15 with the alarm clock for all those years.

I visited the bathroom and made a cup of coffee. Then I went back to bed and watched the morning news shows. It felt good in bed (and I was lazy), so I turned off the TV and started reading a book.

Along the way, I made myself some toast topped with butter and honey in the comb.

I finished the book at 12:30 p.m., just as it started to rain. It didn't rain that much, but the wind was slamming it up against the windows, hard.

It lasted only an hour or so. When I looked outside, the lawn was littered with maple leaves. So, I went outside to get a picture and to check the gauge.

While I was playing photographer, I noticed one of the hanging planters blew down and was on the ground.

I went over to hang it back up, but found the hanger was ripped off. Worse yet, the fall had cracked open the planter itself.  So, I set it upright, next to the tree. I'll get a new one nex time I'm at Home Depot.

On the way back in, I checked the gauge. I was lucky and had less than a half inch of rain in it.

Sidebar, some places in Southeast Michigan got over two inches of rain with the storm.

Back inside, I started my daily project.

Sidebar: My newest retirement concept is to do one project per day.

Today it was to thoroughly clean the downstairs bathroom. So, I grabbed a sponge, a brush and a mop. Then I got a bucket and filled it with hot water and some Pine Sol. Then I got to work.

I was done in about an hour. I left it to dry and took a break.

I had the last of the goulash for dinner.

I tried calling Melissa back, but it went to voice mail.

I watched TV for the rest of the night, ending up with the Tonight Show and Jimmy Fallon.

I was awakened around 5:00 a.m. by a very loud thunderstorm.

Wednesday, July 12, 2017

I didn't turn on the alarm, so I woke up after 6:00 a.m. I turned on the news and got a cup of coffee. When I was tired of watching the news, I took the trash out to the road. Then I swept the whole house.

I made some breakfast, had another cup of coffee and took my pills.

Amanda called around 10:30 a.m. We were supposed to go swimming in some lake around here after she finished work at 2:00 p.m., but her father asked her to run some errands. So, she figured it would be too late and too crowded.

Sidebar: I was looking forward to swimming, though. It was a hot, humid day and I haven't been swimming all year.

She suggested going to bingo with her mother tonight, but in a different place. I said sure (I was hoping to hell it it was air conditioned).

She said they'd pick me up around 5:30 p.m. (I have NO idea where Saint Priscilla church in Livonia is).

I shaved and showered and got dressed. Then I drove to CVS and picked up some prescriptions ($119.00 - I can't afford to be healthy anymore, LOL).

Back home, I changed into shorts and a t-shirt.

I went out back and watered the container gardens. I checked on the vegetable garden and saw it was more than time to tie up the tomato plants, so I got the Velcro tape from the shed and got that done. It looked much better (although it needs weeding). It was hot and really muggy, so I decided to weed another day.

My back was hurting (probably from that damn chair yesterday) so I laid down around 2:00 p.m. I was going to take a nap, but couldn't fall asleep so I read, instead.

It rained briefly while I was reading but not enough to register in the rain gauge.

Amanda called again around 5:00 p.m. and said traffic was so bad on Plymouth Road between Middle Belt and Telegraph, (and it is - one lane either way and construction everywhere) and asked if it would it be okay to pick me up first.  I was dressed by then and said sure. So she did and then we drove the half mile or so to her parents house.

I went in and met her dad, who had just got home from work. Then we headed out for bingo. We ate at the church. I got a hot dog, while they both ordered pizza, which they claimed was excellent (it looked it). The hot dog was great, by the way.

We played for four hours (like at the Elk's Club). I was just two numbers from winning once, when somebody yelled "Bingo!" Dammit!!!

Sidebar: There is something I like about bingo. It requires a lot of intense concentration. Plus, it gets me out of the house, and I think I spend too much time alone.

My daughter, Melissa called, so I answered and told her I'd call her back.

It was the last game of the night, with a $500.00 prize, when Amanda hit it! Unfortunately, another person hit it it at the same moment, so she had to share it and got only $250.00. But that's the most she's ever won and the look on her face made me smile.

We dropped her mother off and then Amanda dropped me off around 10:30 p.m. I got in the trashcan as she was driving off.

I called Melissa back and woke her up. I apologized and told her I'd call her tomorrow. Then I went to bed.

Forgot to mention...

They are still shooting off fireworks each night around here.

Weird-ass last seven days...

I grilled on the Fourth as I'd had planned.

On July the Fifth, I quit my job.

Sidebar: I cannot explain this at all. I was in the shower, cleaning up to go to work, when I thought, "I can't do this anymore." So, I sent a text to my boss, telling him I quit.

He did not take it well... I apparently forfeit all my accrued vacation by not giving them two weeks notice.

He said I had to come in, pick up my stuff, turn in keys and badge and sign some papers.

I told him not that day. Then, I took the rest of the week off. I got a well-needed inch of rain one night.

Amanda came over with some Lemon Shrimp on white rice on Thursday. We ate dinner and then sat on the patio for a couple of hours.

I talked to both Jake and Melissa over the weekend.

I finally went in Monday morning, driving through heavy rain. I packed the rest of the two boxes (Courtney had already started packing my first box). Not exactly sure what I forgot. Everybody was very helpful and everybody loaded up my special chair in the back of the truck.

The problem was unloading the chair in light rain. Never realized how heavy that sucker was! Courtney had offered Mike's help after work. Sorta wish I'd taken her up on that.

But finally, my special chair was in the office, and the old office chair was out to the road.

Amanda stopped after her work. She's having some sort of Tupperware-like party tonight, only body lotion. She's making cookies for the treat and offered to drop some by later. I said sure and she left.

I spent the afternoon working on finances (this will be a worry) and looking at Facebook. It stormed here, but it was all over by 4:00 p.m. I checked and I got another inch and a half of rain.

Amanda dropped off the cookies. I ate some leftover goulash for dinner and then the cookies for dessert. They were good!

I watched some taped TV and then the 11:00 p.m. news. I finally went to bed. It had been a long day.

Willie Nelson - Seven Spanish Angels

Anniversary Shoutout!

Happy anniversary to my son, Jake, and his lovely wife, Carla. You guys rock!!!

P.S. Cards for you and Joe are on the way. Bought them last week, but forgot to mail them. I suck...

Birthday Shoutout!

Happy birthday to my grandson, Jose Garcia!

I ate two more Egos with butter and real maple syrup for breakfast.  Then, I totally took Sunday off. I did go to Westborn for some sweet corn (to grille on Monday) and eggplant to make on the fourth.

Then I watched lame movies all afternoon.

My daughter, Melissa called late in the day and we talked for over two hours.

I warmed up more goulash for dinner (still too dry - gonna buy some tomato juice at the party store and tone it up.) Then I went to bed, trying to sleep with fireworks going off all around me.

I went and got my haircut at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Then I went to Kroger's and restocked (bleach, laundry detergent, kitty litter, etc.)

Amanda stopped by in the afternoon. She showed me the photos from her hoe down concert at DTE Friday night (she went with her two BFF's, Angie and Annie). Then she said goodbye (her and the guys are going up north for five days). I will miss her.

I made up a recipe for American goulash. I added two medium onions that I chopped, along with a chopped green pepper to my Dutch oven and canola oil. I boiled a pound of elbow macaroni as well. I pushed the peppers and onions aside and browned a pound of ground chuck.

I hand-crushed the tomatoes in a 28-ounce can of whole tomatoes in  a bowl.

Sidebar: Sadly, this is the most erotic thing I do these days...

I added that to the pot, along with a can of tomato sauce, salt, pepper, paprika and the drained pasta.

I let that get happy for a bit and dished out a bowl. Kinda bland needed more tomato, I think.

Oh well, I can play with it, I'm off until Wednesday.

Finally Friday...

I know. I know... I say that a lot. Makes me think I am more than ready to retire...

It had sprinkled overnight, but nothing much to talk about. But it was hot and muggy on Friday.

I thought I had a lunch date, but that fell through. So, about 2:30 p.m., I went to Wendy's and got their pecan and apple salad. It was SERIOUSLY good.

Sidebar: As a foodie, I appreciated the mix of flavors. The candied pecans, the apples, the grilled chicken, a variety of greens and the dried cranberries mixed together with the pomegranate dressing was excellent.

Note to Carla: They put the pecans in a separate bag so you can add them or not.

I ate all the chicken figuring it wouldn't  reheat well. But I saved the rest for dinner.

Back home, I took a break. I was tired. I ae the rest of my salad fr dinner and watched TV on the bed until I fell asleep.
