It was overcast on Thursday, but still a very nice day.

I went to Lowe's at lunch. Instead of trying to find an open restaurant, I just bought two hot dogs on my way out and ate them in the truck.

Sidebar: Home Depot hot dogs are much better.

When I got home after work, I changed clothes and went outside to weed. This time I got two wheelbarrows full before I had to quit.

I went inside and laid down for a while until my back stopped hurting.

Then I made a fried egg sandwich for dinner.

I watched a little TV but went to bed early.

It was a beautiful day on Wednesday, not too hot, not too cool.

I went to Applebee's at lunch, so I could go to Lowe's afterwards. I ordered my usual, the three cheese chicken cavattapi (sp) and the French onion soup. That when I realized the restaurant will filled with families with small children. Turned out that kids eat for free now, Monday through Wednesday!

My waitress kept coming and going with trays pf food, but not mine. She finally brought mine, 30 minutes after I ordered. It had apparently be done a long time ago, as it was almost cold. I ate it anyway.  The soup, of course, stayed hot with its crust of cheese. But, it was too hot to choke down in the remaining time I had left. So, I left most of it and drove back to woke. No Lowe's today!

When I got home, I treated the cats and then started watering container gardens, front and back. Then I watered the herb garden. Finally, I hooked up the square head sprinkler and watered the vegetable garden for an hour.

I warmed up a bag of Uncle Ben's butter and garlic rice and ate that for dinner, along with a simple salad.

I watched some TV and then went to bed.

Tuesday's Tale

It was cool again Tuesday morning. This time I wore a coat into work!

I went to Big Boy's for lunch and got a Caesar side salad and a cup of chicken noodle soup for lunch.

Back home, I changed into long pants and was going to go do some more weeding. But my back already hurt, so I decided to take the night off for a change.

I made mushroom agnolotti with alfredo sauce for dinner.

I watched TV and went to bed around 10:00 p.m.

Caley, helping me fold the laundry...

Slowhand Sunday

** Apologize! Wrote this throughout the day on Sunday but didn't realize I never posted it **

I slept in on Sunday. When I finally got up, I turned the news on and made a cup of coffee. Then I toasted two Eggos while I warmed up the pure maple syrup in the microwave. It would have been better with bacon, but it was a good breakfast, anyway.

And, no, I didn't feel guilty. Thank you, handicapped lady for the present!

Sidebar: Still not sure about a spinach and artichoke cheese dip, though...

I swept the whole house from top to bottom, then I finally started the last load of the weekend wash around noon.

I was watching the National Geographical channel in my bathrobe until about 2:00 p.m. before I started feeling guilty (still can't shake my Catholic roots). So I shaved, showered and got dressed in long pants (chilly outside, today).

I got out the wheelbarrow from the shed and went back to weeding.

Note: The sky looked like rain (please!) but nothing was happening.

Again, I only got about a wheelbarrow full until my back gave out.

So, I went inside and took a nap.

When I woke up, I remembered the laundry. So, I put it in the dryer.

I was hungry, but didn't feel like making a big dinner. So, I just made a blue box of mac and cheese and ate about half of it.

I watched some taped TV and went to bed before 10:00 p.m.

Monday, monday...

Monday was a cool day (weird, felt like summer in Spring, now that its summer, feels like early spring). I wore a long sleeve shirt, but should have worn a coat!

I went to Ten Yen for lunch. More weird weather! It was sunny going in, but it was light rain coming out. Then I went to Lowe's and bought more Wet-Jet pads.

Back home after work, I treated the cat and changed clothes. Since Tuesday is garbage day, I went through the fridge and threw away a lot of old/expired stuff.

Now that I had the Wet Jet pads, I started washing all the wood floors.

Amanda called to see if I was home. She was taking some strawberries to her friend Annie's house (Annie lives near me) and wondered if I wanted any.

Sidebar: Amanda, Scott and their son had a rare day off together. So, they tracked down one of the few you-pick strawberry farms still opened and picked two boxes.

I said, "Sure!" So, she stopped by dropped off a small bowl. We chatted for a bit and then she left.

I ate the last two pieces of bad pizza for dinner (rather than throwing them out).

It was a gorgeous sunset (red tinged clouds across the whole west sky).

I stayed up late and watched the Detroit Ford fireworks. Amazing and a fantastic finish!

Watched the 11:00 p.m. news and then went to bed. Going to be dragging come Tuesday morning.

The Saturday Story.

I didn't sleep worth a shit Friday night. I woke up at 4:00 a.m. and could not fall back asleep. I ate some of the crappy pizza so I wouldn't barf when I took my pills.

I watched the local morning news when it finally came on at 6:00 p.m. Then I watched the national news. Finally, I got off my lazy ass and shaved, showered and got dressed for grocery shopping.

I bought just a little new food, it was mostly a resupply run. But I managed to spend $107.00!

At the checkout, the lady in front of me was in one of those handicapped electric scooters. She had a lot of trouble unloading the basket. When she was done, she kept reaching for something. I was just about to ask her if she needed help when she grabbed the stick (or whatever you call it) to mark the end of her purchases and handed it to me. I thanked her and started to put my purchases on the conveyor belt.

The checkout lane was the only one without a bagger (Of course, always my luck) so the cashier bagged her stuff. But finally, she moved on and it was my turn. I tried to help by bagging my stuff, but I suck at getting the bags separated. Most of the things was still there when I had to pay. So, I checked out and paid for my stuff.

Sidebar: You will see why this was relevant, shortly.

I drove straight back home, left the truck outside and unloaded the groceries. I was putting them away when I came across a bag I didn't buy! It had a box of frozen Eggo waffles with blueberries, two tubs of a spinach and artichoke cheese spread and two packages of baby wipes. WTF? Apparently the overworked cashier missed giving it to the lady in front of me and gave it to me instead.

I thought about it for a while. I didn't think Kroger could identify the lady as she paid cash. So, I finally put the waffles in the freezer, the cheese spread in the fridge and the baby wipes in the bathroom closet.

Sidebar: If you have a baby who needs their ass wiped, I got you covered!

I took a bit of a break then changed into work clothes. I went out front and started to weed the garden.

Sidebar: Yes, I did pay a lady to weed them, but she's still recovering from her surgery and they are getting WAY too tall.

I got one full wheel barrow full and maybe a quarter of it done when my back gave out. So, I put everything away and went inside.

It was nice and cool outside with a breeze. so I opened all the windows to air out the house. Then I laid down to ease my back and took a nap.

When I woke up, I checked the phone and saw I'd missed a call from my daughter, Melissa. So, I called her back and we talked for a couple of hours.

Dinner was still more cold, yucky pizza.

I watched some TV, then closed the windows and went to bed.

Guy Clark "The Cape"

It was raining when I went into work, but not hard. Once again, the rain passed Redford by.

Sidebar: I checked the gauge when I got home after work and I got less than 1/4 inch of rain.

I got a cheeseburger and some coleslaw (instead of fries) for lunch, then I went and got the truck washed. It was hot and muggy by then.

Once I was home, I treated the cat and changed clothes. I went outside and checked out the yard. The weeds are getting out of control in the font garden, but the lady I paid to weed it is still recovering from her surgery.

I was surprised to see how big the green beans are getting!

I didn't have anything I could make for dinner, so I ordered a pizza. It was expensive and not that good!

I watched some TV but went to bed before 10:00 p.m.

Friday, June 23, 2017

Then it was Thursday...

Thursday started out cool, but soon got hot and muggy.

I had a side salad with raspberry vinaigrette for lunch.

Back home after work, there was still no sign of the promised rain. So, I hand-watered all the container gardens and the mailbox garden.  I watered the raised bed garden with the rain wand and then dragged the hose out to the vegetable garden. I hooked up the square head sprinkler, turned on the hose and went inside. I set the kitchen timer for an hour.

I ate the rest of the steak and sweet corn for dinner while watching the nightly news.

When the timer went off, I got up to shut the water off. It was pouring!!!

I got soaked shutting the water off and had to change clothes.

I watched TV until bedtime.

Summer Solstice

It was noticeably cooler on Wednesday and still no rain.

I had a bowl of potato soup for lunch.

When I got home, I decided to try and fix the dryer.

Sidebar: An electrician at work told me"something" was arcing in it, tripping the breaker. He said it's usually the power cord, so I bought a replacement one.

I put a blanket on the floor and gently laid the dryer on it's face. I unscrewed the cover that the cord went into and then disconnected the old one.

Sidebar: All little screws that I was worried I would drop and lose.

Then I put the new cord on, put the cover back and stood it back up.

I started the Wednesday wash.

Next I got the charcoal lit and took out a steak I had thawed the night before. I grilled that. I didn't have any sweetcorn to grill, so I made some frozen sweet corn on the stove. Dinner was pretty good!

I put the clothes in the dryer, turned it on high and turned it on. About halfway through the cycle, it popped the breaker! Dammit! So, I turned it on medium and finished drying the clothes.

I watched a little TV, but was asleep by 10:00 p.m.

Chillin' on an extended weekend

I had a scheduled haircut appointment at 9:00 a.m. I had to cancel as Scott and Keith said they would be here around 8:00 a.m. to install my new air conditioner. They didn't even ring the doorbell (they know the back gate is really unlocked). I only knew they were there when I got a cup of coffee and glanced out the the kitchen window. They were already unhooking the old one.

So, I went outside and chatted with them. It took about three hours but I finally had a new 2 1/2 ton unit!

Best of all, they only charged me for a two ton one.

I called my barber after they left and she said if I could make it by 11:30, she had an opening. So. I hopped in the truck and took off.

Sidebar: Kroger's is on the way to the barber and I need supplies. But when I drove by Kroger's it was PACKED! So, I just got a hair cut and then went back home. I spent the rest of the day cleaning the house and enjoying the cool air.

My daughter, Melissa, called to wish me a Happy Father's Day.

Sunday I just chilled. I did water the container gardens. I started to get sick in the afternoon. By the time it was 6:00 p.m. I had diarrhea and was throwing up.

Monday, I stayed home. I was sick as a dog. Amanda stopped by (she was worried about me). She also gave me a Father's day card.

Tuesday, I went into work, but was still throwing up. It was embarrassing. I ordered soup for lunch but couldn't eat it. Then I went to the Chevy dealer and picked up Amanda's wheels (she bought them but couldn't fit them in her car). I'll drop them off at Belle Tire Wednesday morning.

I watched NCIS and then NCIS New Orleans Tuesday night.

Friday was hot and sticky, too.

I had my usual fish and chips for lunch.

After work, I treated the cat, changed into shorts (no shirt) and sweated. I ate the last of the chop suey and watched TV until bedtime.

Friday, June 16, 2017

It was another hot, sticky day on Thursday. It sprinkled in the morning and only added to the humidity.

I had cold chicken salad on a pita for lunch, then took a drive through Hines Park. It was apparently too hot for even the joggers! The grass is burning up fast and it looked sad.

It was 79 degrees in the house when I got home. It had apparently rained recently in Redford as the patio was wet.

I had bought a 6 ounce bag of Tyson fully cooked chicken chucks on a whim a while back. So, tonight, I warmed it up in the microwave, while I warmed up some chow mein vegetables on the stove. I mixed them together while I made some Uncle Ben's rice in the microwave. I put them together, set half of it aside for another day, added soy sauce to the first half and had an excellent, quick dinner.

I was watching an interesting show (whose name I wrote down) about ancient weapons when my daughter Melissa called. I pushed "record" and we talked for a while.

When we finally hung up, I opened windows and went to bed.

Hump Day

It was hot and sticky again on Wednesday. The humidity was made worse by a brief shower around 9:00 a.m.

I talked with Scott Pace (my heating and cooling guy) He said my house's square footage (1,300 sq. ft.) is just a little bigger than a two ton unit, so he will bring over a two and a half ton unit and install it on Saturday morning. He apologized for not being able to do it any quicker but said he had a lot of jobs scheduled between now and then. I told him not to worry, I won't melt.

I had a cheeseburger for lunch. A vendor came in for a meeting while I was out and brought lunch. So, when I got back, Lenore had saved my a turkey and bacon sandwich, a pickle, a bag of chips and piece of Grand Traverse Bay pie (cherry crumb) for my dinner. Thanks!

It was 81 degrees in the house when I got home from work. I went out back to check on the vegetable garden and found that some critter had been feasting on the newly planted eggplants!

I ate half a sandwich, changed my shirt and left. I decided to join Amanda and her mother, Fran, at the air conditioned bingo hall. for the evening. I had fun again, but didn't win anything, again. At least I was cool!!!

We left around 10:00 p.m. and it was noticeably cooler. So, when I got home, I opened a couple of windows, turned on the bedroom fan and went to bed.

Wednesday, June 14, 2017

It wasn't as hot on Tuesday (high of only 84 degrees) but it was more muggy.

I had a side salad for lunch with raspberry vinaigrette. I didn't want anything hot. This time I brought a bottle of water as Livonia is still under a boil-water situation.

After work, I took the truck through the touch-less car wash next to the house. I drove it home and dried it off with my special truck towel.

Then I started to water all the container plants, front and back.

When the sun began to set, I dragged the hose to the vegetable garden and watered it for an hour. No sense watering it in direct sunlight and having half the water evaporate

A/C Update: Still over 80 degrees in the house and the A/C been running constantly for two days straight. Might need more freon (expensive these days). Since it was here when I got here, I have no idea how old the unit really is. So, I decided to give up on repairing it again and will call Scott Pace in the morning and buy a new one.

Tuesday, June 13, 2017

I couldn't find my glasses Monday morning, so I wore my back-up pair to work. It was already hot at 7:00 a.m.

There is a boil-water notice for Livonia, so I had to drink a Vernor's at lunch with my BLT.

Back home after work, the A/C hadn't kept up with the afternoon heat and it was 81 degrees in the house! Which was still better that the 92 degrees outside. I turned on the fan and started hunting for my glasses.

Sidebar: I lose them at least once a month. I generally find them on the bed, under the bed, on the computer desk, on the bathroom sink, etc.

But they were no where to be found!

Just then I got a text from Amanda, asking me what I was doing. I told her sweating my ass off and hunting for my glasses. She said she and her friend Annie were at the Outback Steak House. She said they couldn't finish their "bloomin' onion" and did I want the rest? I said sure.

When she pulled in, I told her the house was hotter than outside (there was at least a breeze outside) and suggested we sit on the porch. So I sat on the bird bench and she sat in the rocker. She reach down to the little rattan table and said, "Are these the glasses you looking for?" I'll be damned!

After she left, I heated up the bloomin' onion and ate too much of it. I turned on the fan in the bedroom and tried to fall asleep. It took a long, uncomfortable time...

T-Shirt and Pass

Weekend Update

I had to go to my optometrist on Saturday. The nose piece on my glasses was bent in and has been annoying my nose. I tired to fix it, but was afraid I'd break it. He's up in downtown Farmington and they open at 10:00 a.m., so I headed out about 9:30. They fixed it in no time and I headed back home.

I went to Home Depot and got three more eggplant, some fertilizer and some tree fertilizer stakes. The place was a madhouse and I spent more time in line, trying to check out, than I did getting my stuff.

Back home, I changed into shorts and a t-shirt. I went out and planted the eggplant. I mixed the fertilizer into the dirt and then watered the garden. While the square head sprinkler was doing its thing, I hand-watered all the container gardens.

I shut off the hose and reeled it in. Then I went inside. It was already too hot!!!

Sidebar: We have at least three days of temps over 90 degrees and humid coming up. It's not going to be pretty.

I took a nap in the afternoon. The doorbell woke me up. It was Amanda who was on her way home after an unusual Saturday workday. The restaurant was registering folks for a car show at "The Barn" on Sunday.

Sidebar: "The Barn" is an old barn on Middlebelt and Chicago and is usually a farmer's market on weekend. Jake and Carla introduced me to it years ago.

Anyway, she brought me a t-shirt and a VIP pass to the show! [Photos to follow]

I was hungry after she left, so I made a pizza. I ate some of that watching an old movie.

It was already hot on Sunday morning when I woke up. I ate some toast with honey for breakfast.

I got cleaned up and decided to check out the car show. But, when I drove there, it was packed!!! And, where I would normally park, it was roped off with more old cars displayed. There had to be at least 1,000 vintage cars everywhere. I gave up and drove home.

I stayed inside in the air conditioning the rest of the day, watching movies and eating cold pizza.

Birthday Shoutout!

Happy birthday to my son, Jake! Happy birthday, dude!

Saturday, June 10, 2017

It was overcast on Friday and looked like it might rain, so I left the windows up on the truck when I got to work.

Sure enough, it started raining here just after 9:00 a.m. So, I didn't get to walk outside in the morning.

Sidebar: Walking in the shop can get to be a bit boring, lol.

The good part was that it stopped raining before lunch.

I got a mushroom and Swiss burger for lunch (no sides and I asked for box -  no way I can eat a half pound burger these days!) I cut it in half, put half in the box and ate the rest.

Then I went to Lowe's and bought a small bag of potting soil.

Sidebar: The big red pot didn't have enough dirt in it but I didn't want to buy a 40 bag.

The sun came out in the afternoon.

Back home after work, I put some of the dirt into the red pot and then watered it. Looks better!

I ate the other half of my burger after I warmed it up. I watched an old movie and then went to bed.

Road Trip - Day Two

Thursday was a really nice day - not too cold, not too hot.

I ate a side salad with bleu cheese dressing and a cup of chicken noodle soup for lunch. Then I did some shopping before returning to work.

I left work at 4:00 p.m. (instead of my usual 4:30) and picked Amanda up from her work. We thought we might beat "some" of the rush hour traffic. And it worked.

We got to Ypsilanti in about 20 minutes. She paid the guy, he signed over the title and we headed back. She went back to get some things out of her old car (she left it at work) and I headed home.

I changed clothes after treating the cat and checked on my gardens. Everything was still damp, except for the vegetable garden. So, I ran the hose out and put the square head sprinkler on it. I turned on the hose, set the timer for an hour and then took some pictures.

I shut off the hose and then I ate the last of the ham steak and some beans for dinner.

I got a text around 8:00 p.m. from Amanda, offering to take me to dinner to thank me for driving her. She was at her parents who live nearby. I told her I already ate, so she suggested dessert. I explained I had my crappy work clothes on, so she suggested we go to the the Dairy Freeze (or whatever its called) just down to the street and get some ice cream. So, I agreed.

She got a strawberry shake and I got a cup of butter pecan ice cream. We ate them sitting on one of the picnic tables outside in the warn night air.

Back, home, I took her inside to show her the progress on the toy box. She thanked me again and said if there was anything she could do for me to just ask. I said, "There is one thing. Could you help me put the shade back on the light in my bedroom?" So, she climbed the two steps on the ladder and I held it up (standing on the bed) while she screwed it on. Mission accomplished!

After she left, I decided not to watch TV and just went to bed.

Road Trip - Day One

Wednesday was a little warmer in the afternoon, but still chilly in the morning. So, I wore a coat, but left it in the car at lunch.

I had a grilled cheese sandwich with tomatoes and a cup of soup for lunch, then took a nice drive through Hines Park.

After work, I picked up Amanda and we went to check out a couple of cars that were posted on Craig's list.

Sidebar: Her old man was working and she didn't want to go alone in case the sellers were ax murderers.

We checked out one in Livonia. Nice clean car, but too many miles and needed shocks and struts.

So we drove to Ypsilanti and checked out a Saturn. We took it for a test drive and she fell in love with it (it is a nice car). She gave the guy a deposit and got a receipt. We agreed to come back on Thursday after she gets the rest of the money from the bank and complete the purchase.

I got home around 7:00 p.m. I was tired, so the only thing I did was sweep the kitchen floor (I had tracked in dirt yesterday after the planting).

I warmed up the last brat and sweet corn for dinner.

I watched a little TV, but went to bed early.

Wednesday, June 7, 2017

Tuesday was cool again in the morning.

I had a cheeseburger with coleslaw for lunch and then went to Lowe's. I got a spike and two wave petunias for the red planter. I also got some marigolds for the vegetable garden. Sadly they didn't have any eggplant (Home Depot only had one and wanted four).

Sidebar: Hopefully, Home Depot will have restocked next time I go there.

It was still cool whenever the sun was not out or if the wind was blowing.

When I got home, I changed clothes and planted the front planter. Then I went out back and finally planted the vegetable garden (except for the other egg plant and green bean seeds).

I came back inside just before 8:00 p.m. and washed up. I heated up more of the ham steak and an ear of corn for dinner. I ate that watching NCIS, then I went to bed.

Catching up with photos

Finally downloaded them from the phone, so here you go...

Vegetable garden - before

Vegetable garden - after

Hanging Planter #1

Hanging Planter #2

Hanging Planter #3

Veggies, waiting

Another day, another dollar...

... makes me want to holler...

Sidebar: That probably only makes sense to me and Victoria.

After hitting 87 degrees on Sunday, it was noticeably cooler on Monday. I probably should have worn my coat, but I'm tired of wearing it in the morning and then having to leave it in the truck at lunch.

Speaking of lunch, I took a late one. Amanda had sent me a text, asking if I wanted to try the new Panda Express that just opened at Middlebelt and I-96 when she got off of work. I said, "Sure."

Sidebar: I am more of a traditional Chinese restaurant kinda guy, but I can be flexible. Especially when it comes to cute chicks...

So, I met her there at 1:30 p.m. (hungry as hell). They let you taste-test anything you want (which I thought was nice). We both tried the spicy shrimp. It was excellent. So, Amanda got that in a bowl, served over white rice. But, I wanted to try the orange chicken (Ten Yen does not serve that so I assume it's an American version of a Chinese dish). I got that over a bowl of "fried rice" that seemed to have way too many vegetables (Carrots? Peas? Really?)

It was really good, though! We laughed and talked and told each other stories. Then it was time for me to leave.

I couldn't eat it all (I never can, these days) so I took my leftovers back to work.

Since I went to lunch so late, the afternoon passed quickly.

Once I got home and treated the whiny cat, I changed clothes (long pants - its chilly out there) and went back to work on the raised bed (okay it was an old sandbox, but "raised bed" sounds cooler) vegetable garden.

Sidebar: One thing I noticed about being so late to plant this year: the weeds are much taller so they are easier to pull. They all went into the compost heap. Then I worked up the soil with the garden weasel.

But it was already after 8:00 p.m. so I just watered all the veggies (they are on the patio). It's still supposed to be cool tomorrow, so they should be okay.

I ate the rest of the orange chicken after washing up. I started watching TV, but turned it off and went to bed.

Monday, June 5, 2017

Forgot to mention this, but this happened over the weekend.

Sidebar: I always look at my change these days, especially if I get quarters back. Why? Well, when Vicky still worked with us, I came across one that had Puerto Rico on the back. So, I gave it to her. She put it in her pocket and said, "Thanks! My Dad gave me one last week." Now, had I known that, I would have kept it for myself. So, I keep searching for another one.

Anyway, after Kroger's and Westborn, I had some change. So, I looked at the quarters (nope) but then I noticed a penny that looked strange. It was pretty worn, so I got a magnifying lens. It was made in 1919!!!

Damn! I'm rich!!!

So, I looked it up online. It's worth 35 cents, LOL!!!

Sunday, SUNDAY!!!

(Who used to say that, anyway?)

I didn't sleep well Saturday night, so I gave up and got up at 5:00 a.m. (too early for even watching the news.) So, I made a cup of coffee and read in the living room. It was supposed to rain overnight, but I saw no evidence of that here in Redford.

Sure enough, when the news came on, the forecast had changed from slight risk of thunderstorms to spotty showers. No rain here at all...

I made and ate a ham and cheese omelet for breakfast. I was hungry, so I completely forgot to take a picture of it! My bad!

I did all the usual Sunday morning chores and then shaved showered and got dressed. Then I headed out to Home Depot to buy my veggies and hanging planter flowers.

Sidebar: I don't know about your Home Depot, but here they have a LOT of workers from a greenhouse, rolling around these tall carts (taller than the ones we used on the BPS project at Spacely Sprockets). They are constantly restocking plants, watering stuff, etc.

So, anyway, when I pulled in, one of the women was bent over, watering the lower shelves of one of the carts. She had a really cute butt and, because she was bent over, part of her crack was showing.

I thought, "Hmmm." Then I thought, "Stop it! You leave that young girl alone! You are becoming a dirty old man, you creep!"

So, I went and got $64.00 in veggies and flowers. Sounds like a lot, but I'm going minimal this year. For example, I usually plant six tomato plants. I'm doing four. I want to see if I have been over-planting in the small space I have, resulting in poor harvests.

On the way out, I passed the watering woman, bent over again. She was at least in her early 40's, so I no longer felt like a dirty old man, more like an admirer of feminine beauty.

On the way home, it finally started to sprinkle. So, I left the truck outside, went in and treated the cat (of course). Then I changed into shorts and a t-shirt and did the last load of the weekend wash.

It finally quit raining around 11:30 a.m. so I went out back.

I filled up the three hanging planters with dirt. I had enough left over to fill the pot I painted red last year, so I set that out up front.

Here's where I screwed up. I "thought" I bought a flat of impatiens (which do well in shade - like my back yard). But, I discovered I bought begonias by mistake! I planted them anyway. We'll see how they do...

I had six left over, so I put them in the red pot. I still need something tall in the back and something droopy in the front to complete the look.

I took out all the veggies and put them on the patio, where I watered them. My back was hurting, so I decided to forego planting them today. Instead, I went inside, washed up and took a long nap.

Victoria sent me an email with a picture she had taken (that I never saw before) reminding me that exactly two years ago we were all in Puerto Rico.

What a time I had!!! I sent her a reply, asking her if she had the time to go back. Didn't get a response yet.

I ate half of the ham steak, an ear of sweet corn and some Bush's beans for dinner.

I read in the living room until bedtime.

Sunday, June 4, 2017

(not in the Park)
(and I know it wasn't the fourth of July).

But, I do like that song, LOL!

I woke up without the alarm just after 7:00 a.m. (again). So, I'm thinking that's my natural wake-up time, not 5:15 a.m. Good to know for retirement, I suppose.

My barber was on vacation last week, and people were stacked up for haircuts. The earliest appointment I could get was 10:30 a.m. when I called on Wednesday. So, I putzed for a long time.

I stripped the bed and started the weekend wash. I ate two pieces of toast with that honey in the comb (delicious, BTW) and watched the morning news. Then I finally shaved, showered and got dressed.

I got my haircut and went to Kroger's, then Westborn. I got back just after noon. It was already hot!

I put away the groceries and then I changed into shorts and a t-shirt. I started getting the weeds out of the vegetable garden, but it was hot and sweaty work. So, I came in and I worked in the house (and the A/C, LOL) until  it was time to grille. I fired up the charcoal and drank a beer until it was ready. I grilled five ears of sweet corn, brats and a ham steak.

I ate two ears of corn and two brats. Tasted excellent!

I watched a taped TV show and then read until bedtime.

Holy Crap!!!

When I got home on Saturday morning, I was unloading the groceries outside and happened to glance across the street. At some point or another recently, they cut down the four trees in front of the south townhouses. I knew the front one was dead, but WTF? Looks bare and weird.

Finally Friday

Sidebar: I know I use that title a lot. But, at my age, lol, that's how I feel.

I forgot to mention, I was supposed to have Scott Pace coming out at noon on Friday and fix my air conditioner. It didn't turn on a couple of weeks ago when it was up in the 80's. He had called me back on Wednesday. He asked me if I had actually went outside and listened to see if the compressor was on. I said, "No, I just looked and the fan wasn't turning."

He suggested doing that and, if the compressor was on, sticking something on the fan and turning it by hand. He said older A/C fans sometimes seize up over the winter. Otherwise, he's see me today.

Sidebar: It's a Carrier and was here when I first started renting the place.

Well, as you know, I was playing bingo on Wednesday, so I didn't get a chance to try it. But Thursday night, I did. I heard the compressor running when I turned it on, so I pushed the fan blade with a thin wood stick (I was afraid of using a screwdriver and accidentally damaging the fan blades if it did turn on). And, by God, it turned on!!!

So, I called him to cancel our appointment, saving him the trip from Waterford and me $$$.

Note to self: Buy a cover for the damn thing and put it on in the Fall.

Anyway, back to Friday. It was a gorgeous day. We reached a high of 77 degrees here.

For lunch, I got a cheeseburger and a cup of chicken noodle soup (instead of fries). Then I went and got the truck washed.

It was a payday, so back home after work, I worked on the computer for a long while (paying bills, check register, To-Do list and a list of veggies and plants to buy on Saturday).

I could not find a single interesting thing to watch on TV, so I grabbed an old favorite DVD (Vanishing Point) and watched that. I ate more of the pasta salad for my dinner and decided to throw the rest away.

When the movie finished, I went to sleep.

It was a little chilly on Thursday, so I wore my coat to work. But, when I went to lunch, I just left it in the truck.

I got a BBQ pork sandwich and the first damn bite (and I was using a knife and fork), a piece fell off and onto my new shirt!!!

I went and got the truck washed after I finished.

Back home, I hand-watered all my recent plantings. Then I watered the raised bed herb garden with a hose. I added more wood chips to the mailbox garden. I also found the hanging planters from last year (I thought I'd saved them). So, I'll just buy plants instead of forking over a ton of money for new ones.

Back inside, I thought about dinner. I have brats to grill but that seemed like a lot of work at 7:00 p.m. So, I just made my last blue box of mac and cheese.

I ate that watching Jeopardy. Then I watched a taped TV show and went to bed early.

Weird Wednesday

Wednesday started out all wrong. I either forgot to set the alarm or shut it of and went back to sleep. So, I woke up at 7:20 a.m. instead of 5:15! So, I sent a text to my boss, letting him know I was running late and hustled to get to work.

When I went to Home Depot over the weekend, they had tons of hanging plants for $5.00! So on Tuesday at lunch, I went back to buy three.

Sidebar: I had put away the bird feeder, suet cage and the seed can in the shed for the summer over the weekend.

But, when I got there, I couldn't find any. So, I asked an employee where they put them. She said they had sold over 5,000 Memorial Day weekend and they were all gone.

Damn! So, I drove back to work, discouraged. I stopped at Jimmy Johns and bough a turkey sandwich and ate half of it at my desk. I took the rest home for dinner.

It was warm and very windy during the afternoon.

I got home after work and took in the trashcan and the mail. Then I treated the cat and changed my shirt.

Here's where it got even weirder. I left at 5:45 p.m. and drove through extreme construction on Plymouth Road to the Livonia Elks club (Plymouth Road just east of Merriman). I was joining Amanda and her mother for a night of Bingo (of all things, LOL).

I don't know that I have ever played Bingo in a hall before, so Amanda had to help me out with what to buy. I got eight hard cards (they had like three times more and I saw some people with, like, 50). some paper ones and some chips (to use on the hard cards). They lent me a dobber for the paper ones.

I found it intense (I really had to concentrate, though they made it look easy).

I didn't win once, though Amanda did. She won $150.00 on one bingo!

I didn't get home until after 10:00 p.m. I treated the cat, ate the rest of my sandwich, brushed my teeth and went to bed.
