Finally Friday...

(With apologies to my poor, bored Brother Carl).

Sidebar: I only post this to mess with Jake. When he made the first website some 15 years ago, it was a present. But, he challenged me. He said most Bloggers quit before six months. Now, I realize most of you don't give a crap about what the weather was like, how much rain we got, what I did after work, or what I made for dinner. But, I still post

And, I think after 8,935 posts, I think I have proven him wrong!!!

Anyway, on to Friday... It was overcast but still warm Friday morning.

I got a text from Amanda, letting me know she remembered to bring in a piece of her birthday cake for me. She was supposed to bring it in on Thursday, but her son was in a poetry contest at school and she forgot it in the excitement.

Sidebar: I saw the video of his recital but couldn't hear his words. :(

Anyway, I had a cup of chicken noodle soup and a grilled cheese sandwich. I couldn't finish it all, so I took the cake with me. When she hugged me (as she always does) I told her to drive careful. She and a couple of girl friends are celebrating her birthday up north (somewhere) in a "Bring back the 80's" celebration.

Sidebar: I really don't remember the 80's. I was working...

I had a little of the cake around 3:00 p.m. It was a three layer chocolate cake with pink frosting
and a smear of raspberry jam in the middle of each layer. It also had a ring of real raspberries around the top. Do I need to tell you it tasted fantastic (and I don't normally like cake)?

When I took my walk in the afternoon, the temperature had dropped dramatically.

We were supposed to get some nasty storms but nothing much showed up around here....

My nose was plugged up when I awoke, probably from having the windows opened Wednesday.  We have a lot of tree pollen around here.

It was overcast, but warm on Thursday. We were supposed to get severe thunderstorms, but we just had rain here in Livonia. Unfortunately, it started around 11:00 a.m. so lunchtime was a washout.

I did run over to Lowe's and got a hot dog on the way out.

It stopped raining and the sun came out around 2:00 p.m.

Going home, I damn near died. The expressway was very slow (I don't know why) and I was in the the second lane from the right. There was nobody near in the third lane, so I started to pull over. Just then, a pickup in the fourth lane had the same idea. So, to avoid hitting him, I pulled back into the second lane, only to find they had all stopped! I hit the brakes and smoked all four tires (I'm sure my new tires now all have flat spots)  and stopped inches from the SUV in front of me.

I think my heart was still pounding when I finally got home.

This night's cleaning adventure was the bedroom.

I ate leftover pizza I discovered in the fridge for dinner, watched a little TV and then went to bed.

Windy Wednesday

It was very windy on Wednesday, but gorgeous. We got to almost 80 degrees!

It was my friend Amanda's birthday, so I went to Westborn and bought a banana nut muffin for her. On the way back to Time Out, it dawned on me: What if she's allergic to nuts???

But, when I got there and asked, she said she wasn't allergic to anything and thanked me for the present.

I had a bowl of chicken noodle soup and then headed back to work.

Back home, I opened all the windows to air out the house. I started the Wednesday wash. Then I started sorting though book and put the ones I wasn't that impressed with in a box to donate. I am currently overrun with books!!!

I ate the last of the steak and the last of the pasta salad for dinner.

I watched a little TV, then I closed the windows and went to bed early.

Did You America Today

Tuesday's Tale

It started out overcast and a little chilly, but the sun came out mid-morning and we hit 71 degrees on Tuesday.

So, I got a quarter-pounder and had a picnic in Hines Park for lunch.

Back home after work, I retrieved the trashcan, got the mail and went inside. Once I changed clothes, I went out back and refilled the feeders.

Back inside, I started deep-cleaning the office. I had to empty the vacuum cleaner twice from all the cat hair! I vacuumed the computer, under the computer, the wall vents, etc., etc., etc.

When I finished, I warmed up more of that steak and the other ears of sweet corn. I ate dinner watching NCIS. Then I went to bed at 9:00 p.m.

Monday, monday...

It was chilly again on Monday morning, but warmed up to a beautiful 70 degrees in the afternoon.

I had a bowl of bean soup for lunch, then took a nice drive through Hines Park.

Back home, I started straightening the office. I was carrying boxes out to the garage (which doesn't need more boxes) when the phone rang. It was my old cubical buddy, Michelle. Sh asked me what I was doing and I explained. She said she was sitting in my driveway, but nobody answered the doorbell.

I apologized and opened the door. She had a 7:00 p.m. Tupperware meeting and thought she'd stop and visit, first.

She got a job at Lear and is still going to college, so she's pretty busy.

She wanted a photo with me, so I agreed, with the stipulation I got a copy.

After she left, I warmed up more of the steak and ate that with some pasta salad.

Then I watched some TV until 10:00 p.m.

The Sunday Story...

I woke up late on Sunday. I was lazy and drank too much coffee, watching all the morning news show.

I made breakfast around 10:00 p.m. I took the bacon off the club sandwich and warmed it up in the microwave while I made scrambled eggs. Excellent!

I finally finished the Blog post and then shaved showered and got dressed. I went to Westborn to get the tomatoes and cucumber I needed. I also bought a steak, sweetcorn and a piece of watermelon. Oh, and a jug of "Simply lemonade." I was in a summertime mood.

Back home, I changed into work clothes and started the last load of the weekend wash.

It was a gorgeous day, so I walked in the back yard for a while, picking up fallen branches.

It was a little early, but I started the charcoal for dinner. I sat on the patio, drinking lemonade, and waited for the coals to get hot.

Then I grilled the sweet corn. I stuck them in the oven (on warm) while I grilled the steak. I reluctantly went back inisde and had a great Sunday supper.

I cleaned up what little mess there was and then went and watched TV until bedtime.

Earth Day

It was a little chilly Saturday morning. I got cleaned up and headed out for a 9:30 a.m. haircut.

After that, I spent $33.00 at Kroger's, mostly restocking. I made the mistake of leaving the list on the kitchen table, so I tried to remember it.

Sidebar: I suck at remembering things these days...

On the way back home, I filled up the gas tank in the truck at the corner gas station. Then I ran the truck through the automatic car wash.

I left the truck outside to drip-dry while I unloaded the groceries. Then I finished drying it off with a towel.

As I put the groceries away, I checked them off the list. I forgot an English cucumber and some cherry tomatoes. Dammit! Oh, well, I'll run over to Westborn Sunday morning.

I changed into work clothes. It was sunny, but still cool out. So, I added one of the Dickies work shirts Jake gave me to my normal t-shirt. Fit nice and felt good.

Then I started drawing fixtures I will need to make the toy box (it's time). When you build stuff alone, it's sometimes a problem. I really need somebody to hold things while I nail or screw them together, but I hate to bother people to ask them to help.

I celebrated Earth Day by cleaning out the herb gardens.

Sidebar: Back in St. Clair, most of the herbs came back year after year. Here it's iffy. The sage is coming, but nothing else looks alive. It might be because they are in a raised bed. I dunno.

Back inside, I started making more pasta salad.

Sidebar: That worked out great for leftovers, unlike the potato salad. Both tasted great when I made them. But, the potato salad went nasty after two days. Mayo does not hold up well.

I tried something different today. I bought a bunch of asparagus, found their breaking point and then cut the good parts into bite sized pieces.  Then I blanched them in boiling water for four minutes (they were fat). I put them in an ice bath to shock them and stopped the cooking process, drained them and put them in the fridge.

I boiled a pound of tri-colored rotini. I drained that and cooled it off with water, twice. That went into the fridge as well.

I diced a green bell pepper and a red one. Then I cut up a bunch of green onions. I threw all that into the pasta as well as the asparagus. I added half a bottle of Kraft Italian dressing and a can of sliced black olives then stirred it up. Now all it needs is the cucumber and cherry tomatoes and I have dinner for the week!

Speaking of food, I was hungry. So, I warmed up a can of Bush's baked beans. I added a tab of butter (I like butter on beans - I don't know why) and ate them watching the 1968 movie, Hell Fighters, with John Wayne (another old favorite).

I went out into the garage and made my fixtures.

I cleaned the sawdust out of the garage and pulled the truck back in for the night.

I washed the glass tops in the living room and read in my chair until I was tired of it. Then I went and played on the computer until bedtime.

Finally Friday

It was colder and overcast on Friday, but at least no rain.

I had a turkey and bacon club sandwich for lunch. It was good, but way too big. So, I took half with me in a takeout box.

When I got home, I noticed the tree I planted out front last year was blooming.

Unfortunately, I forget what kind it is. When I get the time, I'll try and check the Blog.

I ate the last of the brats and the pasta salad for dinner.

I swept and mopped the kitchen floor after dinner. Then I read until bedtime.

Even Wetter Thursday

Our first round of showers came just after I made it into work.

It had stopped by the time I went to lunch, though.

I tried something different today: A grilled cheese sandwich with fresh sliced tomatoes in it. Not bad!

The rain came back with a vengeance around 3:00 p.m. It really poured! Driving home on the expressway was difficult, as the wipers were on full blast, people kept hitting the brakes and big truck were splashing me.

Just as I pulled into the driveway, the hard rain stopped! I checked the gauge and we picked up another inch and a half of rain.

I ate the last two ears of sweet corn and two brats for dinner.

I watched taped shows until bedtime.

Wet Wednesday

It was warm on Wednesday. I had a chicken salad pita for lunch.

It started raining here, off and on after 3:00 p.m. Unfortunately, it was raining hard on the way home. So, the drive home on the freeway was slow.

I ate the rest of the steak and two more ears of sweet corn for dinner.

I checked the rain gauge before it got too dark to see and we had almost an inch of rain by then.

I watched an old favorite movie (The Young Guns) and went to bed at 10:00 p.m.

Wednesday, April 19, 2017

Tuesday was cool in the morning, but warmed up nicely. I took the trashcan out to the road and went into work.

I had a grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of vegetable beef soup for lunch.

I got in the trashcan when I got home from work. I noticed the tulips were open in front.

I also noticed that the white hyacinths were now blooming.

I started the charcoal and grilled the sweet corn, brats (for leftovers) and the New York strip steak. I ate two ears of corn and half the steak. It was an excellent dinner.

I watched NCIS and then went to bed.

Tuesday, April 18, 2017

I forgot to set my alarm, so I overslept on Monday. I didn't make it into work until 8:30 a.m.

I got a bowl of chicken noodle soup for lunch.

Back home after work, I finished my taxes. I worked on them from the time I got home until 7:30 p.m. It was too late for grilling, so I just ate some pasta salad.

I didn't turn the TV on, I just read in bed until I was sleepy.

Catching up - Saturday and Sunday.

Saturday was a nice day, weather-wise. I made a pasta salad and a potato salad so I plenty of food to graze on.

I did got to Westborn and picked up some Florida sweet corn, brats, a ham steak and a beef steak.

Then I started cleaning the house.

Easter Sunday, I couldn't decide what to grill, so I didn't. I just ate more potato salad or pasta salad, depending on my mood.

My mood was lousy, to be frank. I've put it off for so long, but it was time to do my taxes. I got about half way through them before I gave up in disgust.

I watched a movie instead, and then went to bed.

Catching up - Friday

Friday was another ordinary day until the evening. I drove downtown to the Jolly Pumpkin Pizzeria and Brewery on West Canfield. The idea was that a lot of us were going to meet up with employees who had moved onto other jobs.

I had offered to take Michelle with me, if she drove to the house. But, at the last minute she said she couldn't make it. Lafel was a no-show as well.

So, it ended up being just Riley, Victoria, Levi and Lenore and her husband.

It was very loud and I could hear half of what Riley was saying. I never got to talk with Vicky. Oh, and, there never was a waitress or a menu. You had to go up to the bar and order your beer (weird) and they didn't have Heineken. Fortunately, Lenore helped me with ordering a craft beer.

I left there around 8:30 p.m. and headed home. I treated the cat and went to bed.

Thursday, April 13, 2017

Wednesday was cooler, but sunny and, well, nice.

The soup for today was creamy chicken and very good. Then I went to Lowe's (again) and wrote down the prices of some wood I will need for the next project.

Sidebar: It a raised bed flower planted for Tracey. I said I would make it but she'd have to come get it (she lives in West Branch).

Back home after work, I watched the news and did the Wednesday night wash. Then I ate the rest of the fried rice for dinner.

I watched a couple of shows I'd taped and went to bed around 10:00 p.m.

Birthday Shoutout!

to my brother Joe. Happy birthday, bro.

We had a impressive thunderstorm around 1:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. When I work up with the alarm, the lake was back!

I took the trash out to the road and then drove to work. It wasn't raining, but it was foggy (or misty - I don't know which).

By  10:00 a.m., it was a beautiful day.

I got a bowl of chicken noodle soup for lunch. I took in the toy box front face and showed Amanda how the veneer edging had worn off and offered to fix it for her. She readily agreed, because that way she could hang it on the wall.

Sidebar: This has been in her family before she was born.

Then I went to Lowe's for some chain saw oil. I drove through a small part of Hines Park on the way back to work (most of it was closed due to flooding).

The temperature had reached over 70 degrees midday, but started falling all afternoon. It was only 60 degrees when I was on the way home. I left my leather jacket in the truck at lunch and regretted it going home.

I had to stop and pick up my prescriptions before going home. So, I ran into the Chinese takeout next store and asked for a quart of chicken fried rice first.

My doctor wasn't kidding. Refilling all of them at once cost me $115.58 cents, with the majority going to the new drug. I went next door and grabbed my fried rice.

Back home, I got in the mail and the trashcan. I noticed that my front lawn was freshly cut and thought, "Oh no!!!" My back yard is a muddy mess and includes the lake. So, the heavy mower would tear the lawn up. But, they had checked and didn't cut the back lawn at all (they did leave the fake chain off the gate, though). Whew!

Back inside, I treated the cat and changed clothes. I took care of some business and then watched the news.

When it was over at 7:00 p.m., I got the fried rice out of the microwave (where I stashed it when arriving at home) and put half of it in a bowl. It was still warm, but not hot. So, I zapped it in the microwave for a minute. I added some soy sauce and ate it watching Wheel of Fortune.

I watched Jeopardy and then a rerun of NCIS. I shut off the TV then and went to bed at 9:00 p.m.

Tuesday, April 11, 2017

It was warmer still on Monday, but very windy. I wore my leather jacket into work, but that was the last time I used it.

I drove up to the eye doctors at lunch. They were pretty busy, so they just took my glasses and my phone number. They said they would call me after they tried to fix them.

Since I didn't have to wait, I had time to go to lunch. I ordered a cheese burger and fries and told Amanda the bad news about her old toy box.

She was disappointed and asked me if she could have the front panel (it's painted with a heart). I said sure.

I left the windows cracked when I got back to work. But less than a half hour later you could hear rumbles of thunder. So, I ran out through the sprinkles and closed the truck windows.

We had a brief, but intense thunderstorm. It was over in less than a half hour.

The eye doctor's office called around 3:30 p.m. my glasses were impossible to fix. I ordered a new frame. So, it will be about a week before I have my glasses back.

Back home after work, I treated the cat and changed clothes. I went out into the garage and dug the front panel of the toy box out of the scrap wood pile. It took me a while, but I got the broken screws out.

Sidebar: When I bought my kitchen table at Art Van, they gave me a wood preserving kit.

So, I cleaned it with the orange cleaner and then polished it with wood polish. It looked a lot better and I put it in the truck.

Back inside, I watched the news for a bit and then got started on my income tax (it's time). I worked until I got depressed (I always have to pay) and then I saved it and quit.

I warmed up the rest of the steak and beans. Along with more coleslaw, that was my dinner.

I watched a taped show, the start of a new series: "The Son" on AMC. I'm not sure if I like it or not.

Then I went to bed.

Monday, April 10, 2017

Then it was Sunday...

I woke up late on Sunday (I didn't set the alarm). I had two soft boiled eggs for breakfast with my pills including my new one (the doctor gave me samples while I wait for the prescription to be filled)

Sidebar: I had diarrhea all day, I assume for the new prescription. Nice...

I did all the Saturday errands Sunday morning. After I shaved, showered and got dressed in my "town" clothes, I headed out.

I went to Kroger's, Costco and finally Home Depot. I grabbed two hot dogs on the way out and ate them in the truck.

Back home, I left the truck outside and unloaded it. Then I locked it and left it out there with the windows cracked open.

Sidebar: It was very warm today (high here was 74 degrees). I wore my jacket on my errand run but didn't really need it. It was also very windy. The wind was coming from the south-southwest. So, I opened the only window that faces south in my house (downstairs) and the one over the laundry tub (west). Then I opened my bedroom window (which faces north) to air out the whole house.

I stripped the bed and started the second load of the weekend wash. I mixed up some coleslaw and let that get happy in the fridge for dinner. Then I changed into my work clothes. I went out to the garage, opened the door and got the sawhorses set up. I spent the next five hours making all the jigsaw cuts on the toy box.

Sidebar: I hate using a jigsaw, BTW. There is too much vibration to hold an accurate line, so you have to clamp the snot out of the piece you are cutting. Set up for each cut is a bitch!

But I finally got them all cut and rough sanded. I put away all the tool, got the sawdust out of the garage and the truck back in.

I took a break for a half hour, reading in the living room with my feet up. My legs were killing me.

The I lit the charcoal chimney. While that was heating, I remade the bed.

When the charcoal was ready, I grilled a boneless rib eye steak. It had a big piece of fat on it that I should have either cut off or sliced through each every inch or so, because it curled up.

While it was resting, I warmed up a can of Bush's Grilling Beans and mixed equal parts of horseradish and mayonnaise for a sauce. I put everything together and had a excellent dinner.

Then, I watched TV until bedtime.

Road Trip

I woke up to the alarm on Saturday. I had an 8:00 a.m. doctor's appointment in Clinton Township.

First problem of the day was my glasses. They weren't on the nightstand. I must have fallen asleep with them on and then maybe rolled on them. Anyway, the one screw was missing, one lens had popped off and the frame was bent... Dammit! I've have to run them up to Farmington on Monday to see if they can be fixed or if I need to order a new frame.

I didn't take my morning pills because I can't eat before my doctor's appointment.

I got out of the house around 7:10 a.m. It was sunny but cold. Traffic was light, so I made good time. But I was still five minutes late.

I got the Spring physical, including an EKG. Everything was good except for my sugar.

Sidebar: I was taking medicine that she stopped six months ago, because my sugar was too low. Now, its too high again. So, she's adding it back and I'll have to go back for a check up in three months this time. Some times I feel like a science project!

Anyway, about an hour later, $20 poorer and a quart of blood less, I headed back home.

Sidebar: At this point in my usual doctor appointments, I normally write, "Next, I went to visit my brother Carl and/or my friend B___. But this is the first warm, dry weekend in a long while and I have a lot of work to do back home.

An hour later, I was back in Redford. I realized I was starving, so instead of going straight home, I stopped at Leo's Coney Island for breakfast (two eggs over easy, link sausage and hash browns with rye toast).

I also stopped at the corner gas station to refill the truck's tank ($2.45 a gallon!!!)

Back home, I treated the cat, changed into working clothes and went out back.

I planted green onion cutoffs after refilling feeders. When I tried this last year, about half grew. Not so sure about this time. I got rained out when I first cut off the ends, so I put them in the fridge for a week. We'll see...

It's almost time to do the first harvest on the chives.

I cleaned out dead plants from the mail box garden.

Back inside, I drank coffee and was reading until the outside temp reached 50 degrees.

Then I backed the truck out and, using the trusty track saw, cut out the sides of the toy box.

Note: It takes longer to set up the track than it does to cut the wood with the track saw. But you do get a beautiful, straight cut.

That was enough for today. Next step is a LOT of jigsaw work.

I backed the truck out onto the road and blew out the sawdust in the garage. I had to take off my work jacket, turn it upside down and shake it to get the sawdust out of the pockets.

I got the truck back inside and buttoned everything up for the night (it was 6:30, so I missed the news).

I treated the cat (again) and started the weekend wash.

I wasn't really hungry, so I just made some popcorn for dinner.

I watched an old favorite movie (Lord of the Rings - Return of the King). That didn't end until after midnight. So, I let Saturday Night Live tape and just went to bed.

Saturday, April 8, 2017

I did go into work on Friday. It as sunny, for a change, but still windy and cold.

I wasn't all that hungry, so I just had a bowl of chicken soup for lunch. Then I went and got the truck washed.

Back home, I worked on the computer for a while until my daughter Melissa called. We talked for a long, long time. When we hung up, I went to bed and read until I fell asleep.

Friday, April 7, 2017

I played hooky on Thursday. I was tired of finding work to do and tired of the damn rain. So, I stayed home. I spent most of the day in bed, reading.

When I got hungry, I made two poached eggs and ate them on top of buttered toast. Delicious!

The sun did come up for a little while on Wednesday. I was on the way into work (heading West) so it blinded me in all three mirrors! But, by the time I pulled into the parking lot, the clouds had swallowed it.

It was windy, cold and rainy the rest of the day.

I got a BLT for lunch. It was good, but the crunchy bacon hurt my teeth. After eating, I went to CVS for this month's greeting cards.

It wasn't raining on the way home. So, I took the opportunity to get photos of the hyacinths for you.

We were talking about egg noodles at work, so I made some for my dinner. I topped them with some  butter, parsley flakes and salt. They were delicious!

I watched taped TV shows until bedtime.

Wednesday, April 5, 2017

Tuesday was yet another gloomy day, with occasional sprinkles. But this time it was chilly and windy as well.

I went to Time Out for lunch and got a grilled cheese sandwich and a cup of chicken tortilla soup. Luckily, Amanda was there, so I asked her about the color she was going to stain the toy box. She said probably light. So, after eating, I went to Lowe's and bought a dowel and the extra board I needed.

Sidebar: Plugs are always oak, so they stand out like a sore thumb when you stain something light. So, I will have to hand cut them from a dowel - not difficult, but time consuming. This ain't my first rodeo.

A vendor had brought in some Panera sandwiches for a lunchtime meeting. So, I grabbed one of the leftovers. I bought a bag of chips from the machine and I had tonight's dinner done.

Back home, I finally unloaded the dishwasher and put everything away.

Caley and I watched TV until I fell asleep. I woke up at 12:30 a.m. to go to the bathroom. Then I turned off the TV and light and went to bed for real.

Tuesday, April 4, 2017

Rainy days and mondays...

It rained off and on all day Monday. Not hard (thank God - we don't need more rain right now) but more like a drizzle.

I went and got a bowl of chicken noodle soup for lunch.

I spent most of my free time at work planning everything I would do after I got home (clean the house, do my taxes, etc.) Instead, when I really did get home all I did was to assemble the trash for Tuesday's pickup. After that, I said, "To hell with it!" and took the night off.

I solved (or at least mitigated) my tough roast beef issue by cutting each slice into one-inch cubes. I put them in a pot and dumped the gravy over them. I brought that to a boil and let it simmer until the news ended (so a couple of hours)

Then I warmed up some of the veggies in the microwave and dumped some of the beef and gravy on top. Much better!

Sidebar: I still will never put an eye of round roast in a slow cooker again!

I watched some of the Red Wings game and then went to bed early.

Monday, April 3, 2017

Sunny and warmer Sunday.

I slept pretty good and woke up at the normal time (5:15 a.m.) on Sunday. I stripped the bed and started the weekend wash. Then I made a cup of coffee and finished the Blog post.

I did the usual Sunday morning chores and then got started on making dinner. I had an eye of round roast in the freezer (it was a "buy one, get one free" and I had frozen the free one a while back) that I thawed on Saturday. So, I looked online (when in doubt, Google it!) and found a slow cooker recipe that I loosely followed.

Sidebar: Did I have any Marsala wine? Nope. Do I ever use packaged dry beef gravy mix? Nope! Did I have any Yukon Gold potatoes on hand? Nope, just small, sprouting Russet potatoes. You can see what I mean by "loosely."

So, I peeled and diced six small Russet potatoes and put them in the round slow cooker.

Sidebar: I like to match the size of the protien I'm cooking to the size of the slow cooker. I think the flavors infuse more that way. This was a small 3-pound roast so it will just fit in the round slow cooker.

Also, I always spray the inside of the slow cooker with canola oil. Not for any flavor boost, just for easier cleanup.

Then I peeled and cut two carrots into chunks on the bias. Next I diced two stalks of celery and finally peeled and quartered two small yellow onions. Those all went into the slow cooker and I stirred them with a wooden spoon.

Note: I have never seen that in a recipe but, again, I feel that the flavors mix better than when you just layer the veggies. But, that's just me...

On a paper plate, I mixed together a teaspoon each of the following dried herbs and seasonings: paprika (I used smoked), oregano, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and ground black pepper.

I took the roast out of the packaging, cut cross-hatched lines through the minimal fat cap, rinsed it and then patted it dry with paper towels. I put all sides and both ends into the seasoning/herb mixture and put the roast on top of the veggies.

Instead of the one cup of beef broth and dry beef gravy mixture, I added a 14.5 oz can of beef broth. I also added two tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce (instead of the Marsala wine) and a bay leaf (also not called for).

Note: I poured the broth on the side of the low cooker, rather than washing the seasonings off the roast.

My only regret was that I didn't have any fresh or canned mushrooms. I think it would have added an nice earthy flavor.

I turned the slow cooker on low and noted the time (I need to cook it for eight hours).

The wash machine had been off for a while, so I went and put the bedding in the dryer.

Then, I went and watched more of the Sunday morning news shows.

I finally got off my butt and shaved, showered and got dressed. Then I headed out to Home Depot.

I couldn't find the Ryobi bar and chain oil I need for my electric chain saw.

Sidebar: Couldn't fin the chain saw either. Did they stop carrying it? Did I buy it at Lowe's? I dunno...

I did get the countersink drill bit I need for the toy chest, along with the plugs to fill in the holes. However, they only had oak. If she stains it dark, it should be okay. I'll ask her tomorrow. If not, Ill see if I have a 3/8 pine dowel (or buy one) and make them myself.

I also bought the insulation I need for the garage wall along with a hammer tacker.

Sidebar: I already have one from way back when I insulated the apartment I built over the garage on 24 Mile Road. But, I don't have any idea on how to find it! Which is why I bought the insulation. It's really waaay past time to get the garage back in shape!

If and when I do find it, I'll give the new one to Vicky and keep the old one for the memories...

On the way back, I stopped and filled up the truck. It cost me $2.39 a gallon, which seemed high. Not sure when gas went up (again).

Back home, I left the truck outside, unloaded it, treated the cat and changed from town clothes to working clothes. I hopped on the computer to record today's purchases in my homemade Excel check register and then went to work.

I opened the garage door for the light. When I realized how warm it was, I quickly went back in the house and opened the bedroom window and the downstairs window to air out the house.

Before I got to work, I changed out the winter wreath for the spring one.

Then I set up the saw horses and used my six-foot level to mark the first cut.

It took four tries on junk plywood to get the hang of the track saw that Jake and Carla gave me as a present. But, I finally got it (biggest tips I can give you: Good side down and GO SLOW! That definitely keeps the splintering to a minimum.)

Track Saw in action!

I cut up as many pieces as I could, but realized I'd screwed up when I made my plan. I need more wood! That sucks!!!

I went inside to use the bathroom and realized it was 4:30 p.m. So, I turned the slow cooker to warm and went back in the garage.

I put everything away for the night. I couldn't believe how much sawdust the track saw throws (next time I'll hook it up to the Wet-Vac). So, I pulled the truck back and onto the road. Then I got my leaf blower and blew as much sawdust as I could outside.

I pulled the truck back inside and buttoned everything up for the night.

I washed up and shook the sawdust of my clothes Then I addressed my Sunday supper. I took the roast out and put it on a platter. Then I used a slotted spoon to dig out the veggies.

I strained the au jus into a pot and turn it on high. I mixed up some corn starch in cold water and when the au jus was boiling, I slowly whisked it in until it thickened. I plated my dinner with the roast and the veggies and topped it with a splash of my gravy. I added a pat of butter on top of the veggies and dug in.

Result? The gravy and veggies were perfect. The roast tasted fantastic, but it seemed way too tough. Either I did something wrong, or the eye of round roast is a tough piece of meat.

I watched the end of the news and then switched to reading. I read until an early bedtime. I was tired...

Sunny Saturday

As I said, I slept lousy Friday night. When I finally gave up, I read my book until the 6:00 a.m. news came on. My stomach still hurt (but not as bad) but my back now hurt as well.

Sidebar: I was really afraid I'd caught that stomach virus Friday, but that didn't explain my back. WTF?

When I finally got ready to go on my errand run, I figured it out! I went to take my morning pills and realized I had forgotten to take them Friday morning. So, I didn't have my Gerd medicine (stomach) or my Celebrex (back/knees pain).

So, I took today's pills and started feeling better in an hour or so.

I shaved, showered, got dressed and headed out. I went to CVS first, then my 9:30 haircut appointment. From there, I went to GFS and finally Westborn.

I was home by 11:00 a.m. I left the truck outside to unload it. By then, the clouds had left, the sun was out, but it was still chilly.

After treating the cat and putting away my purchases, I went out back and refilled the feeders.

Sidebar: The Johnnie lake is receding.

Back inside, I changed into work clothes.

Then I spent over an hour opening all the boxes and familiarizing myself with the track saw.

Sidebar: I was very disappointed with the owner's guide. It had, like, 10 pages of safety items and maybe 5 pages of how to use it.

When in doubt, Google it!!!

I watched  couple of videos and I think I got it. But I'll try it out on scrap wood first.

The next thing I did was to remeasure and adjust my wood sizes. Measure twice, cut once!

By that time it was just passed 3:00 p.m. and I was beat. So, I pulled the truck back in (after sweeping the garage floor), treated the cat (again - she's programmed to the sound of the garage door opener) and took a well deserved nap.

I was finally hungry, but didn't think anything spicy would be a good idea. So, I made the blue box of mac and cheese. I watched the news until it was over and then a couple of old (2004) Iron Chefs.

I watched the 11:00p.m. news as well. Saturday Night Live was a rerun, so I turned the lights off and went to sleep.

Soggy Friday

It rained off and on all day on Friday. Nothing like Thursday, though. Friday was overcast and occasionally drizzling.

My stomach felt weird, so I just got a bowl of chicken noodle soup for lunch. Then I went to Lowe's to get some saber saw blades.

My stomach kept hurting more and more. It was hard as a rock and so I took some Tums (that didn't help). Then I drank a bottle of Vernor's Ginger Ale (that didn't help, either).

Just before I went home, I went to the bathroom and threw up phlegm twice.

Sidebar: I realize in retrospect that I should have stopped at CVS and got some Pepto Bismol, but instead I drove straight home. I was anxious to get my clothes off as they all felt way too tight.

So, I changed into my shorts and t-shirt and went straight to bed.

I was afraid to eat dinner, but I did keep drinking water so I wouldn't get dehydrated.

The pain kept me awake until 10:30 p.m. when I finally feel asleep. But the pain must have been determined on sleeping position as I was awake almost every hour, on the hour. And, when I woke up, I was either freezing or sweating.

I finally gave up on sleep at 4:30 a.m. and read a book until the 6:00 news came on.
