I woke up to the alarm on Saturday. Why? I had an 8:00 a.m. dentist appointment. So, I got ready but didn't take my pills. Instead, I ate four hits of amoxicillin (required pre-appointment, in my case).
It was bitter cold, BTW, but no snow. That's coming tomorrow. But, Friday's snow was a problem. The side streets were slippery and they were salting the main roads as I drove to the dentist.
From the dentist, I went down Ford road to Kroger's. I had considered topping off my gas tank, using my Kroger fuel points. But when I saw their price ($2.35 for regular), I declined. The three gas stations on the corner of Plymouth and Inkster are having some kind of gas war and I can get gas at $1.99, cash or credit.
This was not a major shopping trip, just restocking the pantry before the storm. I did make one impulse buy. I was getting more grillin' beans when I saw a big glass jar of great northern beans in some mysterious liquid. Perfect!
It was restocking, but I still managed to spend fifty bucks...
From there I went to the Post Office to get some Christmas stamps for my Christmas cards. I thought the line would be long (people mailing presents) but I got right in and out.
Next, I went to Office Depot and got some mailing labels for said same Christmas cards. Office Depot is at Plymouth and Middle Belt, BTW.
On the way back home, I stopped at my gas station. Damn! The price had gone up overnight to $2.09 at all three stations. I still had a half tank of gas, but I filled it up anyway, since its more expensive everywhere else around here.
Finally, I went to CVS for some Christmas wrapping paper and some mouthwash.
I got home around noon. I left the truck outside to unload it.
Sidebar: The low tire light was on all during the morning run. Now, I know its sensitive and reacts to cold (and its damn cold), but I looked at the tires. The front right did seem visibly low. Damn.
So, after I put away the groceries, I fired up the air compressor and got my tire gauge. Three of the four tires were three pounds low, so I topped them off. But, that right front tire was 10 pounds low. Crap! Do I have a rim leak or did I pick up a nail? I will have to keep an eye on it.
Sidebar: I hate flat tires.
I pulled the truck inside and shut the garage door.
Then I switched out the kitty litter (it was time) and went out back to refill the squirrel and bird feeders. They will need it tomorrow.
Sidebar: I should stop calling it the "squirrel feeder." The blue jays around here dive bomb the squirrels and scare them off, grab a peanut and fly away. It's amusing.
I took the leftover ham steak out of the freezer to thaw. I stripped the bedding and started the weekend wash.
Then I laid down on the naked bed and took a nice long nap.
I woke up around 4:00 p.m., refreshed. The ham was thawed, so I started my soup. I didn't use a recipe (I know how to make bean soup).
I diced up two celery stalks and two medium onions (I was going by ratios to the ham leftovers) and sauteed them. During the last minute or so, I tossed in a couple of cloves of minced garlic.
I drained the beans and rinsed them off. I put them in and covered them with a box of chicken stock. It didn't quite cover them, so I added water.
I diced up the ham and threw it in. I added a bay leaf and let it simmer.
I put my shoes back on and went outside. I grabbed some frozen thyme and rosemary. I stripped the thyme and threw it in. I minced the rosemary and threw that in, too.
I let it all get happy and then pulled the bay leaf. Then I took the potato masher and smashed about a third of the beans. I let that get happy and then fixed a bowl of soup for my dinner.
EXCELLENT!!!
I let it cool. I put a container in the freezer and made a small container for Facilities Michelle.
I watched the "Fast and the Furious" for the hundredth time. I have never watched any of the sequels (not big fan of sequels, except for the Terminator series. Terminator two was the best.)
Anyway, I love the Fast and the Furious. The cars running under the semi and that godawful Dodge hemi charger with the blower? Outstanding.
I watched the news and then SLN. I laughed my ass off and then went to bed.
