Seafood Saturday

I woke up early on Saturday (5:00 a.m.) and, with nothing better to do, made myself an omelet for breakfast. It was a little runny, but I was hungry and didn't want to wait. It still tasted great, though.

Sidebar: I understand an omelet with chives and cheese has nothing to do with seafood, okay? Don't mess with my alliteration, please.

I eventually shaved, showered and got dressed It had rained overnight (1/2 inch in the rain gauge) and was drizzling when I left for my haircut.

Unfortunately, I left too early (allowing, unnecessarily, for the rain) so I sat in the parking lot, waiting on my barber, Michelle, and listening to NPR. She showed up just before 9:00 a.m. and I went in to get my haircut.

I left there looking fly! I couldn't come last weekend as she was out of town for a funeral, so I was looking a little shaggy. My hair grows fast, although you wouldn't guess that from my bald head, and I need a trim every two weeks.

From there I went to Kroger's. I got everything on my list, but noticed they had bone-in New York strip steaks on sale. Damn! If the weather this weekend was better and I could get sweet corn in the husk, I'd be all over that! But I moved on...

From there I went to Westborn. The first thing I saw was Florida sweet corn, in the husk (five for $1.99)!!!  Double damn!!!

I chatted up my favorite Mexican employee (she helped me make adobo marinade a few years back, if you remember). I didn't mention Puerto Rico, as the two nationalities are NOT friends.

I got everything on my list, but was stymied at finding an Italian Pecorino romano cheese. And my cheese guru (I like to think of him as my "Cheese Whiz" guy) wasn't there! I needed something aged around 11 years. But, try as I might, I couldn't find any (no matter how long it was aged) except for grated "Romano" cheese. So, in desperation, I bought that.

Crap! This will mess up my dinner. :(

I drove home in the light rain. I left the truck outside to unload the groceries. I can't open the right side door in the garage.

I got everything put away but, as I was pulling the truck back inside, I noticed somebody in the townhouses had a bag of food hung on their mailbox. Then I remembered it was "Stamp Out Hunger"  day at the Post Office, You are supposed to leave a bag of non-perishable items on your mailbox for the poor.

But, my mailbox door is just hanging on a thread since it was hit. So, hanging a heavy bag on it was out of the question. I looked around to find a hook to put my bag one.

Sidebar: My garage is still a total mess since the construction.

I finally found a single shower hook and screwed that on

Then I raided the pantry and coughed up two cans of every soup I had, along with every can of beans. That should give somebody something to eat!

Back inside, I made a tuna fish sandwich for my lunch. I was surprised when I put the empty can down for Caley. She actually licked it a little!

After I ate, I took a nice long nap. When I woke up, I started to clean the house and do the weekend wash.

I was going to make a white clam pizza for dinner. But, by that time, it seemed like a lot of work! So, I ate some Triscuits with the rest of the Dubliner cheese while watching a movie. I had hoped my nap would have let me stay up to watch Saturday Night Live. But, I dozed off during the 11:00 p.m. news.

  1. What's up with these misleading titles? First a non-throwback Thursday and now a seafood Saturday with Triscuits?

  2. Just trying to keep you on your toes!
