Monday was sunny, but cool.
I went home at noon so I could wash the large things (bowls,
roasting pan, etc.) I had left soaking. I heated up a can of Campbell’s split
pea and ham soup for lunch.
I watched the leaves falling in the back yard through the
kitchen window. I must admit, my trees didn’t really turn pretty colors this
year. But, I still had plenty of time, so I drove back to work through Hines
Park. We’re near peak here and some of the colors were fantastic. Wish I had a
dash cam so I could show you!
When I got home after work, Jon-Boy had been here and the
grass was cut and all the leaves gone. Well, all of the leaves on the lawn.
This is the first time in years I have paid for leaf cleanup and I am noticing
the leaves under the play structure, around the sail boat and next to the
trailer seem to be mysteriously building up.
I watched the news until 7:00 p.m. Then I got started on
dinner. Since tomorrow is garbage day, I wanted to get rid of the chicken
carcass. So, I got it out of the fridge and cut off a healthy slice of breast
meat for tonight’s dinner. Then I sliced off enough for a couple of chicken sandwiches.
Finally, I laboriously picked off all the rest of the meat for chicken soup.
Note: I should have made stock with the rest, but I don’t
have the time, patience or containers for it right now.
I put everything away except for tonight’s portion. I added
to the plate two scoops of the savory bread pudding. I steamed a small bowl of
frozen sweet corn and added that to the plate. Then I warmed my plate in the
microwave.
I ate dinner watching TV. Dinner was great! I am warming up
(see what I did there?) to the savory bread pudding. I think the squash
cancelled it out on Sunday. But it tasted excellent tonight.
I finished the Sunday supper cleanup by putting the oven on self clean. I figured it was supposed to be cold tonight, so the heat in the house would be welcome. That was a mistake. The splattered chicken grease in the oven filled the house with smoke and set off the smoke alarms! So, I opened the kitchen window and turned on the overhead fan until it dissipated. But, I scared the crap out of Caley.

I watched TV until 10:00 p.m. and then went to bed.
You are reminding me I need to clean up my oven...it's not self cleaning. Which means this self doesn't want to do it.
ReplyDeleteYou could use John's trick.....fill up the oven with soap and water and let it sit in the sink for a couple of days, comes clean faster that way.
ReplyDelete@ Carla: I totally understand.
ReplyDelete@ GPF: jake would not be pleased...
@GPF: LOL. I would try it but then I would have to lift it in the sink :)
ReplyDeleteWhere are the tree pics from Hines?
ReplyDeleteI was driving and didn't have time to stop :(
