Monday was a little cooler and a lot less humid. I went to
the Newburgh Grill and got some soup and a patty melt for lunch. Then I went to
Randazzo’s and bought a Knockout Rose to replace the one that died over the
winter.
Thanks, Carl, for reminding me what it was called!
Sidebar: Randazzo’s is a little strange. It’s basically a
fruit and veggie store, but also is a nursery. Things are weird in Westland…
So, when I got home, I had a lot of work to do. I needed to
water the veggie garden, but didn’t want to drag out the hose (yet) in case
they came to cut the lawn.
So, first I planted the rose. I put a sheet of Visqueen down
and carefully took off the mulch. Then I dug a big hole and put the dirt on the
plastic as well. I dumped two gallons of water in the hole and waited for it to
go down. Then I stuck the rose in, refilled some of the dirt and put the mulch
back on. I threw the rest of the dirt in the vacant lot next to me.
I could have sworn I still had some Miracle-Gro fertilizer specifically
for roses. But, I searched both the garage and the shed and never found it. So,
I just mixed up regular Miracle-Gro and dumped two gallons on each rose bush
out front. Then I watered all the container gardens (front and back).
It was close to 8:00 p.m., so I dragged out the hose and the
square sprinkler and watered the vegetable garden for an hour.
Back inside, I fried up some chicken tenders and added them
to the last of Evy’s rice for a late dinner.
When I went outside to shut off the water and reel in the
hose, I noticed how nice and cool it had become. So, back inside, I opened the
bedroom window and went to sleep.
Your welcome...just remember to water in this heat
