The Weekend

I woke up unassisted at 5:00 a.m. on Saturday. Damn!

 I got a cup of coffee and worked on the lengthy Blog entry. When the local Channel 4 News came on at 6:00 a.m., I turned it on.

I watched that until I got hungry. Then I made some soft boiled eggs.

I shaved, showered and got dressed and headed out for my morning errands.

I got my hair cut first. Instead of the usual Chuck Connor’s Rifleman, they had the TV turned on some black dudes who were cutting hair in weird ways (like your name or leopard spots).  I told Michelle (my long-time barber) not to mess with me, just trim my beard and cut my hair.

I went to Kroger’s next and got a few things, including some blue cheese/yogurt dressing Jake had recommended and an impulse-buy of a cantaloupe.

From there, I went to the Laurel Park Mall and Jos. A Banks, only to learn the sale I saw briefly on TV doesn’t start until Tuesday! Dammit!!!

I drove south on Newburgh to Lowe’s to check on some things. Next, I went across the road to that Meijer’s and got some new t-shirts.

On the way back, I got the truck washed.

I got home around noon. I put the groceries away and then decided to take a nap.

I woke up around 4:00 p.m. I mixed up a pound of ground chuck with a 1/2 pound of ground pork. To that, I added 1/2 cup of breadcrumbs, 1/2 teaspoon salt, one teaspoon of dried oregano, one teaspoon of dried parsley, 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon of fresh ground black pepper and 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese.  I added an egg and mixed it all together with my hands.

I used my ice cream scoop to make them all more or less the same size meatballs. Then I browned them in the cast iron frying pan. I preheated the oven to 350 degrees F and stuck the pan in to finish cooking.

Sidebar: That was a mistake. I should have added my jarred pasta sauce to the pan and cooked them on top the stove.

Instead, I got my pasta pot and made a pound of thick spaghetti. I added the Prego sauce to the noodles after I drained them. I took the meatballs out of the oven and added them to the pot. Then I plated my dinner.

It was good, but the meatballs were overcooked and kind of hard. I was not happy! This was supposed to last me all weekend…

I watched the original “Godfather” movie, again. Then I went to bed.

I woke up a little later on Sunday (that’s better). I ate half of the cantaloupe for breakfast. I added salt to it, but remember fondly my Father adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream to his.

I shaved, showered and got dressed. Then I waited around. I was supposed to meet up with Vicky and check out the house she’s flipping. I volunteered to do the finish carpentry work for her. I finally sent her a text and asked her WTF? She said she was staying home, instead. I’m guessing her asthma was still acting up.

So, I went outside and picked up some of the trash (I stopped when I had a garbage bag full because my back was hurting). I refilled the feeders, including the suet cage. I bought some suet at Meijer’s.

I went back inside and it was already after 2:00 p.m. So I warmed up some spaghetti and the damn hard meatballs.

I did some inside chores and then watched DIY shows until bedtime.
