I Overslept!!!

I woke up at 4:00 a.m. of Saturday. It was too early for the news, so I started filling in the Blog post. Then I thought I’d lay back down until 6:00, so I did.

But, I woke up at 9:30 a.m.! Which meant I was a half hour late for my massage. So, I sent Margaret an apology text. She rescheduled for next Saturday, but I felt bad.

Then I shaved and showered. I got dressed and headed over to Vicky’ flip house. Her Dad and her uncle were hard at work, scrapping paint off the walls and ceilings.

She gave me a tour (both inside and outside) of that house and the house next door. She bought both and they are more or less identical, including the plaster detail over the fireplace. I took a lot of notes and a lot of pictures.

They are cute houses, but seem like an enormous amount of work. The one they are working on first has no furnace, no water heater, no back door, no garage door and no railing on the front porch. The rooms are fitted for radiators, but they are all gone as well.

It’s more than I would be willing to commit to. That kid’s got balls!

I got down to work, measuring the breakfast nook (I need to build a table) and checking out the kitchen cabinets. The uppers are original 1950’s built-ins. The lower base cabinets are from like the 80’s and the ones over the stove (if there was a stove) are even newer. My challenge is to keep them all, but make them look similar.

I have a few ideas…
Oh, I forgot to mention, in the second house there was a completely filthy twelve-string guitar. I said, “Wow!” Vicky said, “If you want it, take it. I was going to pitch it.” So, I did. It’s missing about half of the tuning pegs, no strings and there’s some damage, but I think I can fix it.

I left there around 1:30 p.m. I stopped at Costco and bought some peanuts for the squirrels and more coffee. I was hungry, so I stopped at my Subway and got a foot-long BMT.

Sidebar: Don’t be hating, Carla!

I ate half of it for my lunch. Then I went out back and got to work. I trimmed the bush on the back corner of the house. I got out the patio furniture and the hose box from the shed. Once I had the hose hooked up, I took off the cover of the reflecting pool and filled it up, skimming the winter crap out of it.

Finally back inside, I took a nap. What I didn’t realize it that I had cut my knee out back.

Sidebar: In my motorcycle accident back in the 70’s, I cut my sciatic nerve. So, I have very little feeling below my left knee.

So, when I woke up, I went to the bathroom and then the kitchen for a drink of water. When I went back to the bed, I realized there was a pool of blood. WTF? It was so bad it even went through the mattress cover (which is supposed to be waterproof).

I retraced my steps and found blood everywhere. It looked like I slaughtered a pig or something!

So, I stripped the bedding and washed it (it took two loads)

I watched some play-off hockey and ate the rest of my sandwich for dinner.  When I finally (finally) got the bed put back together, I went to bed.

  1. Cool guitar find! Next time, I would suggest checking yourself top to bottom before entering your home??!!

  2. What I thought was dirt or dust on the twelve string were drops of paint. I tried to clean it with orange cleaner (for my table) and it didn't budge that crap. I think somebody painted the wall with a roller next to the guitar.

I'm going to try and strip it and restore it. But, it's an off-brand and, judging from all the things it's missing, I'm not sure its worth it...

  3. Machines heads aren't that expense (maybe $20-100 depending on which ones you get). How is the bridge? You might ask those guys you took the violin to just to look it over and tell you if it's sound. heh. sound.
