Smoked Out!

I got to work around 7:30 a.m. after driving through heavy, wet snow. The upside was that it was 26 degrees!!! Woo hoo! Heat wave!!!

I opened the door of the truck outside the building and immediately smelt a burning smell (like somebody had burned toast). Uh, oh. I checked the truck over but didn’t see any smoke or flames. So, I went inside.

The door of our office suite was propped open and a three-foot cloud of smoke obscured the ceiling! Nobody was around, so I went in and turned on my little fan. I checked for flames, but there were none visible. The acrid smoke soon drove me out, though. I met Courtney in the hall.

Seemed she was making breakfast in the microwave. She added some water to ramen noodles in a plastic bowl, turned it on for too long of a time and then forgot about them. Burnt the noodles to a crisp and melted the bowl.

The shop guys brought in fans, opened the front doors and directed the smoke outside while Courtney cleaned the microwave. We ran the big fans for about four hours. The smoke did finally go away, but not the smell.

I went to Big Boy’s and got the veal Parmesan with a Caesar salad. The snow had stopped by then and we picked up two more inches.

The temps were falling by the time I went home at 5:00 p.m. I went out back and refilled the feeders before it got too dark and too cold.

I got together the trash for tomorrow after changing out of my smoke-filled clothes.

I warmed up a can of Campbell’s split pea and ham soup and ate a bowl of it with a bologna sandwich.

I watched the news, but at 8:00 p.m. I switched to the Smithsonian channel and watched a special called Sacred Sites of Ireland. It was a fascinating show about primitive sacred sites.

After that ended at 9:00 p.m., I read until bedtime.

  1. Dad, you should have said "I tried to work but not with the smoke. I nailed it and I'm going home."

  2. Damn! I should have thought of that!!!
