My Birthday

I turned 66 today. That sounds old. But, I still don’t feel old, except when I get out of bed in the mornings. Oh, and when I forget somebody’s name…

I had an English muffin, toasted under the broiler, for breakfast, thanks to my hosts. Jake had to go to work, but that’s the Government, I guess. I’ve never worked even once on my birthday.

So, Carla and I just chilled. It was raining hard here (three inches since midnight as measured at 8:00 a.m.) But, it was incredibly warm (67 degrees F.) The rain grew in intensity throughout the day. So, I decided this was the warmest, wettest birthday I ever had.

I got a LOT of Happy Birthday wishes on Facebook, several text messages from friends and an email or two. So, while I might have been gone, I was certainly not forgotten!

When Jake got home, he made my birthday dinner. It was a riff of my sausage, potatoes and sauerkraut dish. But, he broiled smoked sausage, potatoes and Brussels sprouts.

It was fantastic and I ate too much (but, hey! It’s my birthday!)

Then we played “Cards against Humanity,” and I couldn’t stop laughing.

We had an eggnog toast (with fresh-grated nutmeg) and then switched to watching Christmas movies. First we watched “The Grinch” with Jim Carey. Then we watched “Scrooged” with Bill Murray.

By then it was just about bedtime, so I took my leave and went to bed. I read for an hour or so and then went to sleep.

Excellent birthday. Thanks guys!!!
