Back in the saddle (okay, desk chair) again…

I woke up 20 minutes before the alarm went off on Monday. I sighed and got up. I went through the usual morning rituals and then left for work.

Sidebar: In our texts back and forth on Saturday, Vicky had complained about the weather in the D: 32 degrees with a wicked wind chill. When I left South Carolina on Sunday morning, it was 58 degrees and sunny. When I got to Detroit, it was 58 degrees and raining. So, I told her I brought the warmth back with me for her. Apparently, as I age, my powers diminish (they do that) and today it was only 32 degrees…

Before leaving, though, I threw one of my two snow shovels in the truck.

Sidebar: Courtney had told me that she and Mike were not ready for winter as they didn’t even own a snow shovel. So, I offered her one of mine. She asked why I had two snow shovels and I explained that Jake had left his here when they headed for South Carolina. So, I brought it in today.

Unfortunately, she sent me a text letting me know her son, Aiden, was projectile vomiting, so she wouldn’t be in today. So, I set the shovel under her desk.

At lunch, I went to Home Depot and got some wood, three drawer handles and some suet. I also got two hot dogs. I slathered them with yellow mustard and heaped them with onions. So, I ate lunch in the truck.

Once work was over, I headed back home. I got my accumulated mail from the box, left the truck outside, and went in to treat the cat. I changed clothes.

I still have few food options available. So, I cut up about 1 1/2 pounds of baby redskins and threw them in the Dutch oven. Then I added a bag of sauerkraut and topped that with Kowalski smoked kielbasa, cut on the bias. I brought that to a boil and then turned it down to simmer.

I went out and put a suet cake in the cage. It was dark enough that the security lights came on and the game trail camera captured my every move.

I took my new wood and cut out the last piece I needed for the computer desk. Then I pulled the truck back inside.

I sat on the bed and sorted through the mail. Most of it was junk mail and catalogs, but I did get my water bill (Hurrah!)

I checked the potatoes and they were done. So I dished up a plate and ate dinner watching some taped TV. I was still on South Carolina time, so I went to bed at 9:30 p.m.
