Finally Friday!

Sidebar: It always amazes me how long a “short” week turns out to be!

The weather on Friday was a repeat of Thursday here, except it was even warmer with a high in the low 80’s.

I attended yet another going away luncheon. This time it was for Ben. I hate these things, BTW. I was able to get out of the one last Friday for Phil, a tech who’s been year about a year and a half. But, Ben’s been here over three years, so I felt I should attend.

Unfortunately, it was at Buddy’s which is notoriously slow. I got there at 11:30 a.m. (when I was supposed to) and the waitress finally took my order at 12:10 p.m. (in her defense, she was busy getting the stragglers their drinks). I had the individual antipasto salad and a cup of their chicken tortilla soup. Both were excellent.

I walked outside again in the afternoon, but it was becoming uncomfortably warm by then.

Unfortunately, I had to deal with a sensitive issue at work (protecting my Boss in the interaction with two senior level Executives as I had been taught to do some 25 years ago.). At the completion of that interaction, the employee that originally, stupidly and still unwittingly caused the issue began whining about another matter. Several co-workers corrected him, but he continued to ask why he couldn’t have a desktop and a laptop. I had had it and said, “Because it’s fncking stupid!” I am sure I will pay for that outburst, but my tolerance level for dumb shit had been far exceeded.

What are they gonna do? Write me up and not give me a raise on my annual review? That’s an inside joke, LOL!

But, finally it was five o’clock and I headed home. When I got there, I treated Caley, changed clothes and started the Wednesday wash. Explanation: The Wednesday night wash should have been done on Thursday (due to the holiday) but that would have left just Friday’s clothes to wash over the weekend. Since I have a large capacity washer and dryer, I figured I’d wait one day and get them all done at once.

Then I got out the lawn tractor and cut the backyard grass. Well, that was the plan. But, about half way through, the tractor died! Now, I had filled it with gas and checked the oil like I always do, so WTF?

I fiddled with it a while, but finally gave up and pushed it the l-o-n-g way back to the shed.

I was sweaty, tired, and the day had generally sucked so I quit.

I warmed up two brats and ate them with Dijon mustard and some of the pasta salad for dinner.

I looked for something interesting on TV but failed. I was not even surprised. It was that kind of a day. So, I read through the last two magazines I got in the mail (rocking it old school) and then went to bed.

Thursday’s weather was absolutely perfect: Sunny, low humidity and a high of 74 degrees F.!!!

I ate a chicken salad sandwich for lunch.

When I got home, I quickly changed clothes, got out the push mower and cut the front lawn. One of the yellow lilacs out in the English garden next to the tiger lilies had bloomed overnight and was stunning.

Then I took the push mower out back and cut the tight areas (for the tractor) next to the house.

The plan was to cut the back lawn as well, but when I walked way out back, I found a lot of areas that still looked too soggy. So, I just cut the perimeter with the push mower instead. I’ll have to give it one more day to dry out.

When I got back inside, it was after 8:00 p.m. I ate the last pork shops with the pasta salad for dinner and then watched TV until bedtime.

Hump Day

As I said, I had less than a 1/4 inch of rain in the gauge at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday. I left a little early so I could stop my Meijer’s. I remembered seeing some herb plants on a rack in the vegetable aisle and I wanted to see if they had flat leaf parsley.

Wow! They had three plants. Now, the leaves were a little yellow from being inside, but I was so excited about finding them I bought all three. Then I headed into work.

The forecast was for scattered showers until noon, then clearing and sunny. But, somebody didn’t tell the clouds that. It started raining and raining hard about 10:30 a.m. (I did get my morning walk in outside). No thunder or lightning, just a lot of rain!

So, I got soaked at lunchtime. I went to Time Out and took and chance on chicken enchiladas with refried beans. The result of my being adventurous was the worst meal I’ve had there to date. The enchiladas were crunchy, so crunchy I couldn’t cut them with a knife (who ever had a crunchy enchilada?) And, the “refried beans” tasted like pork and beans with cheese on top.

The waitress asked how they were and I said, “Not so good.” She said, “Would you order them again?” I said, “NO!” She said, “Well, Mexican isn’t our specialty.”

I think that said it all…

I went to the 24-hour grocery store and got some Dijon mustard (I ran out). I got drenched again walking to and from the truck. Likewise, going back into work.

It finally let up around 3:00 p.m.

On the way home, there was a lot of ponding on the roads. When I finally got there, I took in the trashcan and went inside. I treated Caley and then went out back to plant my herbs.

I was amazed at the rain gauge! There was almost 1 1/2 inches of water in there.

I got the trowel out of the shed and planted my parsley. I didn’t bother to add water, LOL!

Back inside, I watched the news until 7:00 p.m. Then I warmed up the steak I’d grilled on Sunday along with two ears of sweet corn for my supper. The steak was worth the wait.

I was obviously stuffed, so I waited an hour or so for dessert. I finally cut into that watermelon. First one this year and it was excellent. I don’t know why I don’t buy these more. Of course, I also think that on the rare occasions I buy a cantaloupe.

I watched a dumb movie until 11:00 p.m. and then went to bed.
