Friday morning, I put the macaroni and cheese into the oval slow cooker and
added about a cup of heavy cream and more cheese to it (to moisten it as it
heated up). I loaded that into the car and then headed out into the cold. And,
it was cold!
So, I went to the Bone Yard at 11:00 a.m. and picked up two
tubs of pulled pork, one large tray of BBQ chicken and a smaller tray of
Broasted chicken. I managed to get them out to the car without burning myself
too badly and then took them to our Holiday lunch.
Everybody said they liked the mac and cheese and only one
person mentioned it was “a little dry on top.” It was all gone, so I guess it was
okay.
I had the pulled pork, topped with coleslaw on a bun, a dab of potato salad, some pasta salad, half of a shrimp and lobster egg roll Fred had made and some Puerto Rican beans and potatoes (sounds strange, but tasty). For dessert, I had one of the candies Michelle had made: Crushed Oreo cookies, mixed with cream cheese, rolled into balls and then dipped in milk chocolate. One was enough, as they were very, very rich.

Everybody brought something so we had a LOT left over! After
we were finished, we took the rest back to Building three and set it all on two
tables. They went around in both the offices and the shop urging people to eat
some or take some home. A lot of people went with the “take some home” idea, so
they didn’t have to cook dinner, I suppose. So, we ended up with just a few
leftovers, two whole cakes and one pie left.
I personally took half of a submarine sandwich, some
coleslaw and the rest of the pasta salad that Taj always brings.
Finally, it was 5:00 p.m. and I was headed home. It had
gotten colder throughout the day and I was glad to finally get inside for the
night. I filled up the slow cooker and let it soak. Then I ran the dishwasher.
I ate my dinner while I watched the evening news, then I
started working on the computer. It was a payday, so I paid some bills,
balanced my check register, and so on. I started watching the hockey game when
I finished, but I fell asleep before it was over. Later on, I woke up, shut
everything off and went to bed for real.
In the grocery store near the sandwich/freezer bags they sell plastic slow cooker liners. Might be a good idea for times like this when you are using it to transport/heat and you already cooked it in another vessel.
