So, I spent all day Wednesday thinking it was Thursday and
all day Thursday, dating everything as Wednesday! This getting old is a bitch!
Anyway, Thursday was overcast, cloudy and smelled like rain.
But, it was warm and kept getting warmer. And, it never did rain here.
I headed home at lunch, stopping off at Home Depot. I bought
a big bag of fertilizer for my Fall lawn feeding, two hardy Mums and two sets
of gloves for staining. At home, I warmed up another bowl of clam chowder for
my lunch.
Once I was home after work, I changed into my shorts and
t-shirt (yes, it was that warm). I started the Wednesday wash a day late (I
blame this on Melissa) and then went outside.
My cubicle buddy Michelle had left early, shutting off her
radio that normally plays all day long. And, to fill in the silence, I played
some of those Johnny Cash songs Jake had given me. For some reason, that took
me back to the day. So, I kept humming or singing old Kris
Kristofferson songs all night long (sprinkled with a few Linda Ronstadt tunes,
LOL. “If you give me weed, whites and wine… you know I’d be willin”).
I watered all the fresh grass and new grass seed. Then I
walked the back yard, picking up branches and checking things out. I noticed the
horseshoe pits I dug out this Spring had begun to grow over with grass and
realized I’d never even used them this year (again). WTF?
Finally I made it to the raised bed vegetable garden. I
snacked on all the ripe cherry tomatoes and then saw it. All the big tomatoes
that were close to ripening had been attacked by “something!” I pulled them off
and threw them on the ground.
I don’t know if it was squirrels, skunks or caterpillars. I
couldn’t dust the remaining green ones as it’s supposed to rain, if not
tonight, tomorrow for sure. So, all I could be was pissed.
I realized it was getting dark, so I reluctantly went
inside. Fall is on the way and I hate to waste the last few days of summer,
inside.
I put the wash into the dryer and then wandered into the
kitchen and thought about dinner. I’m about sick of leftovers, so I boiled the
Buitoni Wild Mushroom Agnolotti (think mushroom-filled ravioli, only lighter) and
warmed up a jar of Alfredo sauce. I put the two together and had a great
dinner.
I moved to the living room, sat in my chair, and read a book
for a long while, until I fell asleep.
I woke up a little after 1:00 a.m. and couldn’t fall back
asleep until after 3:00. Friday is gonna suck!
Maybe the fairies that live in your backyard are tomato fairies...
ReplyDeleteOh, shit! Really? I like those faeries...
ReplyDeleteBut, if they are eating my tomatoes...
