Okay, so I admit it. I screwed off all Sunday morning. I
woke up at the ungodly hour of 4:00 a.m., couldn’t fall back asleep, so I
started screwing around on the computer.
After annoying people on Facebook and spending a couple
of hundred bucks on shit I don’t even need, I finally finished up by chatting
with my daughter Melissa for a bit on line. Then I walked away. Seriously, man,
I walked away from the damn computer! It was almost 1:00 p.m.
I still had the BBC World News on the telly, though. Did you
know there was an important election in Germany or a monsoon in India? Well,
neither did I, since they don’t report on that stuff on my local news…
Do you remember that pork loin I roasted a while back and
then froze? Well, I thawed it out yesterday. Today, I sliced it into 1/4-inch
rounds and then cut them in half. Then I got a glass bowl and mixed together an
8-ounce can of tomato sauce, about a quarter cup of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce
(the best!), a healthy glug of Worcestershire sauce and a splash of apple cider
vinegar. I put the pork and the liquid into the round slow cooker and turned it
on high.
At the last minute, I added a big slug of chicken broth to
the bowl, swirled it around and dumped that in too. Not that I thought it needed
it, I just wanted to clean out the glass bowl. This is how great recipes are
created!
In case you are wondering, I’m trying to turn a roasted pork
loin into pulled pork. I don’t have any buns or coleslaw, but it’s a start! I
set the timer for five hours.
I didn’t eat any breakfast, so I started making myself a
sandwich of deli ham, lettuce and mustard on rye bread. Damn! I wish I had me some
Swiss cheese! But, before I could eat it, the phone rang. It was Jake. So, we
talked a while, mostly about the weather and the bike.
When we finally hung up, I ate my sandwich. It was good,
even without the Swiss cheese.
Then I decided what I really needed was a nap. So, I took
one.Unfortunately, that meant I slept through the official arrival of Fall at 4:44 p.m.
The stove timer woke me up around 6:00 p.m. I turned the
slow cooker off and took the lid off. A taste-test told me I was on to
something! I beat the hell out of the pork with a fork and let it sit to cool
off.
Then I went out to the garage (I felt I really should “do”
something) and set the sawhorse up on the driveway. First I stained the barometer holder. Then I spray painted the
pumpkin cutout. I’m not really thrilled with the stem, though. It looks more
dirty brown than green. It was an old spray can in the closet and I am
wondering if I put the wrong cap on it or something.
I brought everything inside to dry overnight. Then I closed
up shop for the evening.
I was going to make chicken piccata for dinner, but it was
getting late. So, I settled for a hamburger steak with fried onions.
I watched Breaking Bad and then was going to watch Mountain
Man, but it didn’t tape. I wonder if it was a rerun? Anyway, I looked at two
cooking magazines that came in the mail on Saturday until the news came on at
11:00. I went to bed when it was over.
