Sunday's Story

I woke up late on Sunday. I ate a piece of toast with my morning pills. I did the Sunday morning chores, but I was moving slow. My back and leg were still killing me.

I finally shaved, showered and got dressed. I headed back to Home Depot. I forgot a few things yesterday, plus I wanted to get some replacement inpatients for the ones that died in the hanging baskets.

Sidebar: It was already hot! Supposed to hit 90 degrees today with a threat of strong showers after 3:00 p.m.

Back home, I quickly changed into shorts. Then I went out back. I examined all three hanging baskets. All three had lost most of their blooms, but two had dead plants in them. So, I replaced them.

I had three left and no idea where to plant them. So, I put them in the veggie garden in the non-existent bean row.

Sidebar: None of the second planting of beans grew either! I must have bought sterile seeds.

Back inside, I wrapped a package to mail. The Post Office doesn't open until 12:00 p.m. on Sunday these days, so I waited a bit and then drove it over.

Back home, I made a salad for my lunch.

Then I went out back and started to cut down the weeds in the back garden. I have ignored it and now there are tall picker bushes, small trees and weeds growing everywhere. I was going to rent a gas-powered weed wacker with the saw blade (like Jake and I used in the lot next door once) but decided just to use my lopping shears and a pair of sturdy gloves.

I got about 1/3 done before the heat got to me. So, I put everything away and went in and took a nap.

I woke up about 5:00 p.m. It was overcast and windy, but still no rain.

I boiled some Buitoni Mushroom Agnolotti and covered it with jarred Alfredo sauce for my Sunday supper.

We did get a brief shower around 7:00 p.m., but no heavy downpour or storms here. Dammit! We are officially 1 1/2 inches of rain short this month.

I watched a taped movie and went to bed at 11:00 p.m.

  1. re: brief shower Don't feel bad. I was in Armada at Hannah's house, about 5 ish, it poured rain, sun cam out and it rained again for a total of about 20 minutes. Both Brandon and I were excited. won't have to run the hose tonight...got back to Mt. Clemens and absolutely NO rain here.
