Friday

It was sunny and hot on Friday. At least the humidity was still low.

My old cubicle buddy, Michelle, had emailed me and Vicky, asking if her "peeps" wanted to do lunch today. I let her know we had already committed to joining some of the staff at the Fortune Buffet, but asked her to please come and join us.

Sidebar #1: As you may know, I am not that big a fan of buffets. Sure, you can eat all you want, but that just means you usually overeat. And, yes, the price is low, but the food is just so-so. Plus, I have to get my own food every damn day for breakfast and dinner. So, I appreciate sitting down at lunch and having people bring me my food.

Sidebar #2: But, Ken on our WAN team was telling Courtney and my boss, Lenore, how great it was. It has a sushi bar, large traditional Chinese food section, and a Mongolian grill. So, about 10 of us decided to try it.

We left just before noon. Vicky rode with me and Courtney drove Lenore. It's in a strip mall at Five Mile and Middle Belt, so it wasn't far. We got there first, grabbed a table for 10 and ordered our drinks (I went with my usual: Hot tea and water). We talked for about a minute about waiting for the others and then said, "Screw it!"

We hit the sushi bar first. I am no sushi connoisseur, but it was delicious! Courtney's husband, Mike joined us.

Then we hit the Chinese section. I tried a little bit of a lot of things. The new stuff was interesting. My old favorites were not that great. And, BTW, the hot tea wasn't nearly as good as at Ten Yen. Sigh...

Victoria finally called Michelle to see where she was. Turned out she was lost, so we talked her in.

She was seated and eating when Jeff showed up. The waiter told him he was too late and had to sit somewhere else. We all laughed.

Sidebar: I must admit, the waiter was very attentive. He whisked away your plate the moment you finished, and kept everybody's glass filled.

I was full, but felt silly sitting there while Jeff and Michelle ate. So, I got some fruit from the dessert bar.

Sidebar: Nobody else showed up, including Ken, whose idea it was in the first place!

Finally we all went back to work. All, I wanted to do was take a nap...

The afternoon passed slowly, but eventually it was 5:00 p.m. and I was headed for home.

I hand-watered the hanging plants out back, but I fear they are toast.

I did some computer work and then made dinner. I fixed a salad with the last of my lettuce and then warmed up a Marie Callender's chicken pot pie.

I watched some taped TV until bedtime.

  1. I feel like I've eaten there before. Can you order off the menu? If so, I think I did. Also not a fan of buffets. The argument I hear is always "but you can eat so much food." Yea, but I just want a normal portion.

  3. I never saw a menu but I wasn't the first one in the door. Somebody in front could have told them we were all coming for the buffet.
