Superbowl Sunday

I woke up early on Sunday. It was cold but supposed to warm up nicely, later. I got a cup of coffee and then watched the morning news.

I gave up at 9:00 a.m. and then started the Sunday morning chores. Then I stripped the bed and started the first of three weekend wash loads.

I was refilling the cat's water dish when I noticed her automatic feeder was almost out of food. Crap!

So, I shaved, showered and got dressed. I went to the closest place, CVS. Since I was there anyway, I got more toothpaste, mouthwash and Q-tips. By then, it had warmed up nicely.

Back home, I inspected inspected the front gardens before going inside.

I changed into work clothes and, well, got to work! I cleaned the house by vacuuming and washing floors and toilets.

I put everything away and took a break while things dried.

Then I got back to work on the kitchen floor.

I was going to make a chicken dish with wild mushrooms, but decided not to. So, I fried up the mushrooms anyway for later.

Sidebar: I was going to make this same dish last weekend, but didn't. By Tuesday, the crimini, shiitake and oyster mushrooms I had bought went bac and stunk to high heaven!

Then I got going on my snacks.

I spread out Pillsbury Crescent rolls dough on a floured board. I used a pizza cutter to turn it into squares. I put a line of spicy mustard on each.

Sidebar: That was a mistake. I should have used a brush and smeared it everywhere.

The I rolled Little Smokies into each square. I put them on a half sheet try, covered with foil, and baked them off.

Meanwhile i made a cheese ball. I mixed a square of softened cream cheese with 8 ounces of sharp cheddar cheese and two tablespoons of horseradish in the food processor. I poured the mixture onto a piece of parchment paper and formed it into a ball. I stuck that into the freezor to harden

The pigs in a blanket were done. So, I made another half sheet tray of tater tots.

I had two small ramikins of dipping sauces: more spicy mustard for the mini-dogs and a ketchup/horseradish mix for the tater tots.

I took out the huge cheeseball and rolled it in pecan pieces. I put that on a platter and added crackers.

By then, the game was on and I was missing commercials!

Sidebar: I already missed Lady Gaga singing the national anthem. I'm not of fan of  hers, but I head later she was outstanding.

I gathered up my snacks and headed in.

I had already remade the bed and cleaned the house so everything smelled great.

The game and halftime show was okay.

The dogs and tater tots were excellent. But the cheese ball sucked. I should have just bought a little one at the store.

I watched the game until it ended around 10:00 p.m. and then went to bed after cleaning up the kitchen and putting away the leftovers. The cheese ball went into the trash.

I have a trick for keeping mushrooms fresher longer. When I buy the mushrooms, I take them out of there packaging and put them in a paper bag. If you keep the mushrooms in a paper bag in the crisper drawer then they won't rot as fast. Try it out! Mine have been lasting for up to 2 weeks.

  3. @ Carla: Thanks! I'll definitely try it. Nothing pisses me off than throwing away two boxes of gourmet mushrooms!
@ Jyl: As I said, not a Gaga fan at all, but I think only Whitney Houston did it better.

  4. That's quite the super bowl spread! I like cheeseballs. Which reminds me of that horseradish cheese spread. mmm. I have to go now.

  5. LOL! So do I, just not my homemade one.
