Thursday’s Tale

It was supposed to be a lot cooler and less humid on Thursday. So, I didn’t bother wearing my Puerto Rican shirts and went with a short sleeve shirt and a tee-shirt.

That was a mistake…

It was noticeably less humid, but still got up to 86 degrees.

I had to go to Lowe’s at lunch, so I ate at Max and Erma’s (thinking their air conditioning might work better than the Newburgh Grill). It did!

I got a mushroom and Swiss burger (Emma sized) and ate most of it and the fries. Then I went next door to Lowe’s and got more GroundClear and Sevrin.

I walked outside in the afternoon, but didn’t like it.

When I got home, I treated the cat and changed clothes. I watched the news until 6:30 p.m. to let the garage cool off. Then I went out and worked until after 8:00.

I took everything off the workbench and then slowly dragged it out (I made that sucker out of 2x12’s and its heavy!) Next, I pulled everything off the west pegboard and put it on the south one, where possible.

When I quit, all I had left to do was empty the shelves and take them off the wall, plus remove a few things I still have mounted to the wall. Oh, and take down the pegboard, of course.

I am hoping I don't have to take down the shelves on the north side!

It was late and I was hungry, but I didn’t feel like making dinner. So, I made some popcorn on the stove, topped it with some butter I melted in the popcorn pan and salt.

I ate that watching TV and had a slice of watermelon for dessert. I went to bed around 10:00 p.m.

Finally, Some Rain!

Wednesday was the ninth day in a row we reached 90 degrees or higher. But, this time it was the most humid.

I went to Time Out and ordered the only salad on today’s special: chicken ranch. It was huge (of course). They put everything but the kitchen sink on it. But, sadly, the flavors didn’t marry well. There was way too much bacon on it (I can’t believe I just said that, LOL) and it over-powered the taste of the grilled chicken. I ate about half of it and then asked for a box.

The cold front moved in about 3:00 p.m. and so did the thunderstorms. It rained hard here for about two hours, but thankfully stopped before I left work.

A second line of storms moved in about 5:30, but that didn’t last long. I checked the rain gauge and we got just over a half inch here. I wish it was more, but at least the grass had turned green again before I went to bed.

My back was hurting and the garage was stifling, so I didn’t work in the garage. Instead, I did the Wednesday night wash and putzed in the house.

I ate more of the salad for dinner and had a piece of watermelon for dessert. I watched some TV and went to bed around 10:30 p.m.

True Story!

Tuesday

It was hotter and muggier on Tuesday. I think the high was 93 degrees (the record was 100 degrees, set in 1930, BTW). I wore on of my PR shirts so I managed to walk outside I the morning. I didn’t even try in the afternoon, preferring to stay in the A/C.

I went to the Newburgh Grill and ordered the bean and ham soup and a patty melt.

Note to self: Why would you order hot food when you are sitting there melting? Did you forget about salads?

So, I barely managed to finish the cup of soup. The waitress brought my patty melt and I ate a couple of bites. Then I just sat there, debating in my head what to do next.

Unfortunately, the waitress noticed and the two waitresses and the owner descended on my table, asking me what was wrong with my sandwich. I explained it was excellent, as always, I was just too hot to eat. I asked if I could get a box to take it home. They relaxed then and the waitress brought me the box and my bill.

The afternoon was as busy as the morning and before I knew it, it was 5:00 p.m. and I was headed home. I left the truck outside, treated the cat, changed clothes and got to work in the garage. I worked about an hour (until my back started really hurting) and got a lot moved.

Now all I have left is to empty the shelves and the rear pegboards, then remove them. Lastly, I have to get the main workbench out of the alcove and into the main garage.

I have to change clothes when I got back inside. My shorts and tee-shirt were sweaty and covered with dirt and sawdust.

I warmed up the patty melt and ate it. It didn’t taste as good as it did at lunchtime, but it did solve the eternal “what’s for dinner?” problem.

I had bought a small, seedless watermelon over the weekend, so I cut a big chunk of that for dessert.

Sidebar: Is it me or do seedless watermelons just not taste as good as the seeded ones? The ones with seeds are more trouble (unless you’re sitting outside and can spit the seeds out – that’s fun), but I swear they taste better.

I watched a couple of reruns and then went to bed.
