The secret project revealed!

Today at 3:30 p.m. is Yanessa's first birthday party. So, I doubt at this time her Mother, Vicky, is on-line. I had the time, so I thought I would post the pictures of the present I made her:  a toddler rocking horse. I based it off one I made for Jake when he was small. But, I made that one entirely of of 2x12's and it was heavy as hell. So, I came up with this alternative version. I made both of them low to the ground, so if the kid fell off, they wouldn't get hurt. Anyway, this is how it turned out.

Drawing out curves, Part 1

Drawing out curves, Part 2
Top parts
Top parts sanded

Carving in the detail on the tail with a Dremmel tool

Wood putty covering nail holes

Almost ready for staining

Stained and polyurethaned, using 0000 steel wool between coats

Buffing the paste wax with the drill

Wrapped up and ready to go!

  1. Very cool dad! After looking at the pictures did a great job. She looked really happy. Good work.

  2. This brings back some memories! I had almost completely forgotten about my trust steed, Splinters! I cannot help but notice this one seems to be missing a lot of those character building features that Splinters had, such as the barn find rust-covered nail mane. This is nice too though...

  3. @ Carla: Thanks!

@ Jake: Well, you were a country boy, so I made yours "country-rustic"

  4. Nice do good work!!!!
