Rainy Days and Road Trips

It was raining when I woke up Monday morning, but not the hard downpour they had warned me about the day before. In fact, when I drove to work, I only had the wipers on “intermittent.”

I supposed cutting down those pickers violated every rule I am supposed to follow regarding “No BLTs,” because I was sore and hurt like hell all day long. It’s my own damn fault, so I’m not complaining. But, it’s too frustrating sometimes to just sit there and let things go to hell at your house!

I headed out on my road trip to St. Clair Shores at noon. Again, it was just drizzling, every now and then. Now, I thought my brother Joe had said it only took him 20 minutes to get here. So, I figured I’d have plenty of time to get there, get back, drop the scripts off at CVS and get back to work.

Well, I wasn’t driving slow and it took 30 minutes just to get there. I went in and used their bathroom first, then got my prescriptions. Back in the car, I got on I-94 and headed back. It was five minutes to 1:00 PM when I turned onto I-96. Since it didn’t seem likely I even just get back to work on time, I got off the E-way and pulled into a McDonald’s. I got a quarter-pounder with cheese meal and got back on the road.

Eating while speeding in the rain is nothing I’d recommend, not only from a driving safety perspective, but also from an “I just had this damn car cleaned!” perspective.

Forget dropping anything off at CVS! I got back to work at 1:15 PM. Not too bad, and I suppose it could have been closer had I not given into my hunger pangs.

On the way home after work, I stopped at CVS and told them I would pick up the pills tomorrow. She asked me to wait to make sure they had them in stock, so I did and they did.

Once home, it was no longer raining and I thought about going out and spraying the cut-down pickers with herbicide. But, I had the news on while I was changing clothes and they said there was a slight chance the rain would return by 8:00 PM and an even better chance it would start up around 10:00. So, there was no sense to go out and spray, just to have it wash off.

I got the trash put together and out to the street. I noticed the rain had not trashed the iris, in fact more had bloomed. So, I took a few shots of them. I promise these will be the last!

While I was checking the fridge for things that should be thrown away, I saw a small head of cauliflower I hadn’t used and was still good. So, once I was back inside, I cut up the cauliflower and boiled it. I warmed up the rest of that ham in a skillet and, when the cauliflower was fork tender, I plated everything. It tasted pretty good for a leftover meal.

I watched a little TV, but was really sore, uncomfortable and tired. So, I gave up and went to bed at 10:00 PM.

Oh, I know the feeling...I went out and sat on the ground to plant and weed...couldn't hardly walk for a couple of days. Your right, although I have kids that will help, I like doing it~

Hey, what a second! Is that some kind of slam?

  3. @ Jake: I was wondering about that myself...

@ GreatPapaFish: Hey, Father's Day is coming up and I don't want to blow any potential gifts here, Carl! So, to clarify, let me say that I believe all my children would love to help me, but it's just that they all live too far away.

But, I understand what you are saying. Working around the house and gardens is one of my few remaining joys.
